You are right. I totally missed them in 1851. Thanks for your help and catching my error before I traced the wrong family too far.

Caernarvonshire / John and Ann (Griffiths) Owens
« on: Saturday 24 March 07 13:57 GMT (UK)  »
My gg grandparents John and Ann (Griffiths) Owens(s) may have lived in Caernarvonshire before coming to the U.S. in 1850. In the 1841 Census  I find John Owens, born abt 1811 and Ann Owens, born about 1811 living in Llangian, Caernarvonshire,  Wales. (Their years of birth match what I have) The farm was called Tanyffordo (sp?). Also, the following children were listed:  Margaret (1833), John (1835), Owen (1838), Catherine (1841). Also listed is Margaret Griffiths (1766). This may be Ann's mother.  I know that John and Ann had a son Owen (my records have him b. abt. 1841) But, we have no record of a Margaret, John or Catherine in this country. My mother, the oldest surviving member of this branch, has never heard of them.  Margaret and John may have been old enough to be on their own when their parents emigrated and stayed in Wales. Perhaps Catherine died as a child, (I can’t find her in the BMD). I writing this in hopes it will ring a bell with other Owens researchers and we can make a connection. Thank you!

Kevin,

I can't seem to find a connection between our families. My Richard Wright  (b. 1871) was my great great grandfather, so I know he isn't your Richard.

I don't have any Walls that I know of, but will let you know if I can find any connections.

Good luck,

Rich

Also in the 1841 Census, there is a residence called Cwtter Howel also in Llandrygarn. Living there was John Williams 25, Margaret Williams 25 , Hugh Williams 1, and Ann Jones (servant) 15. Again, hope this helps.

In the 1841 Census there is a residence called Gwyndy Bach, apparently an "out building" on the farm Gwyndy. It is located in Llandrygarn. Residents include: Hugh Owen 25, Owen Williams 45, Elizabeth Williams 45, William Owen 25, Elizabeth Williams 12 , John Williams 55, Elizabeth Williams 55, Owen Williams 20.

It appears to be a very large farm, including several out buildings with a second one also named Gwyndy Bach. This second building in inhabited by Thomas and Rowland families.

It'll take someone better than I at figuring out census records to straighten this out. Hope it helps.

Anglesey / Owen/Owens in Anglesey
« on: Saturday 21 October 06 15:02 BST (UK)  »
Many of us are research their Owen/Owens families from Anglesey and we don’t seem to connect. I find it humorous that there are so many descended from such a small island. So, I thought I’d re-post some of what I have in hopes that we Owen descendants can finally come together.

John Owen married Elizabeth Williams and lived on the farm called Henblas in Llanfihangel yn howyn. . John may have had a sister Anne Owen born abt. 1783 in Langridge. She died  on 2/6/1874. She is believed to have married Richard Williams on 9/25/1929 in Llanfihangel Esgeifiog. Richard was born in 1781.

John and Elizabeth had at least 8 children:  Anne (born 1/1818), Elizabeth (1/1819), John and Margaret (both 4/1821), Mary (7/1823), Jane (4/1825) Thomas (1830) and Owen (6/1834).

The above info was from parish records. The 1841 census has only John II and Elizabeth living at Henblas, everyone else has disappeared.

I have only been able to go further with John II and Thomas.  John married Jane, born abt. 1821 and died 11/2/1865. John died 8/26/1897.  Their children: John (born 1846), Anne (1852), William J. (1854), Griffith (1857) and Richard (1860)

Thomas married Elizabeth Jones, born abt. 1835 in Rhoscolyn and died 6/20/1877. Their children: Jane (born 1859), Elizabeth (1862), John (1864), Richard (1868), Margaret (1870), Hugh (1872), Ellen (1874) and Robert (1877). All born in Rhoscolyn.

I have some info on parts of the fourth  and beyond generations, but these time frames seem to be what some of us are looking for. I hope this helps. If any long lost cousins are out there, please let me know.

Thanks,

Richard Owens         ;D

Caernarvonshire / Jospeh and Ellen Wright
« on: Saturday 10 June 06 21:10 BST (UK)  »
My gg grandfather Joseph Wright was born about 1836 in London. He married Ellen Parry, born about 1849 in Caernarvon. They apparently lived in Caernarvon for awhile because their son Joseph Thomas Wright was born there in 1868. Joseph and Ellen had several children, Joseph, Richard, Sarah, Ellen, Mary Jane, James, and Henry. Joseph Sr. was listed as a mariner. Ellen apparently married again to Henry Bromley and had a daughter Susie Maggie Bromley. Perhaps Joseph died at sea?

I have been able to follow the family through the census but as you know, that information tells only part of the story. My Nain, Richard’s daughter saved many clippings of the family once they arrived in the US. But, that is minimal. Unfortunately, those in my family who could help have passed before my interest in genealogy. I know I have cousins out there somewhere and it’s a matter of time before I find some of them. I was just wondering if any of my info rings a bell with you…

Thank you

Anglesey / Re: Looking for my Roberts family from Llanfihangel Y Nhowyn

Debbie,

You're right, I just counted the census entries   ;D

I haven't looked at the Parish Registers. I'm in Orlando and do my research on the net, through the mail and with the help of fellow genealogists in Wales. So, I can't be of much help to you.

If you find anything of interest during your trip to Anglesey, please let me know.

Hi Debbie,

From the 1841 Census, I did find Cerrig Cynrig in Llanfihangel yn Nhowyn.

David Roberts, age 65
Sarah, age 35
Owen, age 15
Margaret, age 5
Catherine, age 3
Jane, age 10 months
William Griffith, Ag lab, looks like age 14 (hard to read)
Jane Hughes, Servant, age 15

If you scroll down this board, you will see my post about John Owen of Llanfihangel yn Nhowyn. I was very excited when I saw that your Margaret married a John Owen. Cerrig Cynrig is only 14 farms away from Henblas where my family lived. Unfortunately, the John that I referred to married Elizabeth. His son John II married Ann and John II's son John III married Jane. John II would be the closest in age to your Margaret.

John Owen is such a common name. Sometimes I think it would be easier to find John Smith. But, who knows, perhaps your John Owen is the son of my John's brothers or sister. Or, perhaps there is no connection at all.

Anyway, keep in touch and if we can share information perhaps we can find a connection.

Regards,

Richard Owens       :)
