Cheshire / Deva Mental Hospital Chester

I wonder if anyone can tell me how to access the Nursing Staff records for the Diva Hospital as both of my husband`s parents worked there for several decades. His father worked there from the 1930s to the 1950s. We are not certain how long his mother was employed there. She was a Ward Sister and his father was a Charge Nurse. Any information about the hospital would be great . Hope someone out there is able to help. Many thanks.
Aloha

Hello – I have just read your June post, and I may be able to help you. The original Joseph Harnaman was born in 1823 and married Anne Lewis in 1846. Joseph and Anne had 11 children in all, including 2 Elizabeths. Joseph was the 3rd child of 7 children born to William Harnaman and his first wife, Maria Jacob. I am descended from William and Maria’s 1st child, William, who emigrated to the goldfields of Victoria, Australia in 1853. If you would like to know more, I would be very happy to pass on all the information that I have about the wider Harnaman family. I don’t have a lot about Joseph in particular, as he is not in my direct line.

On the Birth Certificate for Elizabeth born in 1861 it says that the mother`s maiden name was Lewis but the name Roberts has been crossed out. The date of birth is March 3rd 1861.

Thanks Jim. The information you have given me has been really helpful. I have searched and searched but cannot find any record of Joseph and Anne Harnaman in the 1881 Census. Any help with this wouldbe much appreciated. Aloha

Hello Jim,
Yes, You are probably right. The Birth Certificate that I have is for the Elizabeth born in 1861. I will need to find one for Elizabeth Harnaman born in 1863. Do you know anything about Elizabeth after her marriage in 1886? She died in 1935 before my partner was born and he knows very little about the Harnaman side of his family. Are you related in any way to the Harnaman family yourself? Do you know anything about Elizabeth`s brothers and sisters. I would be more than grateful for any information that you might have. I have collected some information on her brother Joseph Harnaman born in 1860. I cannot find Elizabeth on the 1881 Census  although I have treid several sites so I would appreciate some help there too. Thanks Aloha

Thanks Priscilla.

I am confused as to which Elizabeth Harnaman is my partner`s Grandmother.
According to her Death Certicate she died at the age of 72 in 1935. That means she was born in 1863 and it means that the Birth Certificate that I have is incorrect.

There must be some confusion over the fact that as there were two Elizabeths on your list.

I will have to check this.
If you could help clear the matter up I would be grateful. Aloha

Thanks for your replies. Elizabeth Harnaman was my partners Grandmother and was born on March 3rd 1861 at Ty Coch Bach Clocaenog. She had a brother Joseph born around 1860 who worked as a Butler in Pool Park Efenechtyd and later as an Assistant in the Mental hospital in Denbigh. Their father was a Joseph Harnaman who I believe married an Anne Lewis.I`m not too sure about that. Elizabeth Harnaman married Cadwaladr Evans and they lived in Ty Draw LLan Cyffilliog. He was a tailor. They had four daughters and one son Ifor Harnaman Evans born in1897. He was my partners father. He moved to live in Chester. I would be grateful for any information that you might have regarding this branch of the family. Aloah.

Help. Is there anyone out there who can help me find a family called Harnaman who lived in the Clocaenog area in Denbighshire. Does the name Joseph or Elizabeth Harnaman ring a bell. If you should be able to help please E-Mail me.
