There was a hospital attached to the workhouse and Birkenhead Archives have admission and discharge books  It also says who took them in to the hospital and the dates. Its well worth a look as the names are in alphabetical order

Thanks again to every one, the man with the feather blocking part of his face was my father he was in the RAF serving in England, Scotland and Egypt. the other man in uniform was my uncle and he was in the Army the photo was taken in 1942  I will be keeping them all, they are so good and each one offers something different Alan

Could this be cleaned up and what looks like a feather from the ladies hat removed from the mans face thank you
this replaces an earlier post which has not been worked on  because I was sent a better scanned copy this morning

Thanks for your help Eva had a heart attack on one of the underground tube stations in the centre of London.
She was a live in housekeeper for Bernard after her husband died .She did not have any children so I was her only nephew.
I do have a photo of the headstone but it does not give any clues.
 I can remember mum and dad going down to Saffron Walden for the funeral.
