Martin Bolton Langston's birth in 1795 was recorded as Longston in the IGI. Bastardy records for Chipping Campden in 1796show that mother Sarah was single and that the father was Martin Bolton. There is more than one Sarah Langston born in Gloucestershire in the 1770's so it seems difficult to trace her ancestry. Sarah married George Taylor in 1812 and as reported in another post looked after the Langston children after Martin and his wife Jane died in the 1830's.
Does anyone have information about Martin Bolton Langston as an apprentice tailor in London. I suspect the Langstons were poor and the parish paid for Martin's apprenticeship but that is just a guess

Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated. There is a list of the inhabitants of Chipping Campden in 1786 in the GRO but there are no Langston(e)s in the list.
Martin Bolton Langston was listed as a tailor in Chipping Campden in a Gloucestershire directory in 1830, but the family fell on hard times. They are listed in the Overseers records of Chipping Campden in 1830 as being transferred to the Bengeworth poor house in Worstershire. There are good records of that poorhouse, but not for the period they were there.

I have emailed the Gloucester Record Office for some specific information about Martin Bolton Langston and his mother Sarah. A standard reply should arrive in two weeks. Will let you know the result

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Bastardy records Chipping Campden

I am looking for LOOKUP help re Sarah Langston ( shown as Longston in IGI ) who gave birth to Martin Langston in July 1795 in Chipping Campden. Martin was christened in October 1795. Sarah is listed as the mother but there is no mention of the father in the records. It seems likely that there would have been a bastardy inquest at that time which identified the father. There are bastardy records at Gloustershire record office covering 1795. Would appreciate someone seeing what information is available. I am a direct descendant. Many thanks

Alex Wood is probably the best person to contact re the Leah side of the family. I am descended from Clara who emigrated to Adelaide in 1852. These are my notes about Clara
  CLARA MAY LANGSTON
     b chipping camden 17/3/1821 52.03n 1.46w 25 miles nw of oxford-times 56 h3
listed 1841 census in the hamlet of Berrington at Littleworth (at Chipping Campden) as age 20 living with Charles (69) and Sarah Taylor (67) and Leah Sarah and Charles. Interestingly Alfred is not listed, although he may have been listed as living with a neighbouring family named Blakeman (this unclear as the whole family is bracketed as a unit but Alfred's surname is blank, he is the correct age and there are few families in Littleworth). Charles is listed as an agricultural labourer and born in the county; Sarah is listed as not born in the county.
Clara is listed in the 1851 census at Chipping Campden entry 186 Littleworth living with her sister Leah,  Leah's husband and 2 children

Martin Bolton Langston was born 22 July 1795 and christened on 23/10/1795 in Chipping Campden. The IGI entry is under "Longston" which is why his birth is hard to find! He was married in London as per previous posts. He was a tailor (listed in a Gloucestershire directory) and may have been in London during an apprenticeship. I have not searched apprenticeship records. There is a reference in a family bible that wife Jane Steel was christened on 6/10/1798. The only matching IGI entry is a Jane Steel from Holme Cultran, Cumbria. The IGI entry for Martin's birth lists Jane Longston as the mother, with no father named. This suggests Martin was illegitimate. As per previous posts Sarah married George Taylor in 1812 in Chipping Campden. In the Gloucestershire Record Office, there are bastardy records for many years either side of 1795. They should not be difficult to search and if we are lucky, we will find out who Martin's father is. As I am in Australia, I have not followed this up. I have not found any reference to the Bolton name in my work. I have not been able to positively identify Sarah Langston's (Longston's) birth. As noted earlier, she was listed in the 1841 census as "born out of the county"
Jane Steels parents appear to be William Steel (b 1757)and Susan Osmotherley, (b 1764)both of whom were christened in Holme Cultran, but there is also a William Steel born in Chipping Campden in 1768.
Would appreciate any further news.
