Leicestershire Resouces & Offers / Re: Link: Barrow upon Soar Parish Registers
« on: Monday 13 February 17 13:42 GMT (UK)  »
Although the site now is closed, I managed to download the parish record Excel files before they closed. There are 38 excel files in total covering:

Baptisms from 1849
Burials from 1813
Marriages from 1754
Methodist baptisms from 1948

If anyone wants a file just state what year(s) you are interested in

Rutland Lookup Requests / Re: Amos Eli Newbold b. 1871 Exton

Hi Forte

Sorry for the late reply, I was in the middle of a house move and got waylaid....

Anyway, is your sister's research the http://www.hibbitt.org.uk/ as I found the George Newbold/Ann Parker page while searching Google. It states George and Ann are her and presumably your 4th great grandparents, they are my 4th greats also so I guess we are 4th cousins? My 3rd Great grandmother was their daughter Ann born 1828.

With Amos Eli I'm just trying to sort out loose ends in which he is definitely one.

Many thanks for your input.

Hi

First of all, thanks for the speedy replies.

In the 1851 Census there are 3 sons and 2 daughters that could be the parent of Amos Eli.

John b 1840
Eli b 1842
Henry b 1845
William b 1848
Mary Ann b 1850
Emily b 1853

All the rest would be too young.
If anyone has access to the parish registers and can find the birth of Amos Eli, hopefully it will be one of the above people.

Again, many thanks

Hello folks

I'm looking for the parents of Amos Eli Newbold, birth registered 4th Qtr 1871. I have found him on the 1881 census as "Grandson" of Elizabeth Clare Newbold (widow), but would dearly like to attach him to some parents.

Many thanks in anticipation

Hi Tony

According to FreeReg, William Letts was Baptisted in Cold Ashby, 9 Jul 1837, son of Thos (Tailor) and Sarah. Whereas my William looks like he didn't arrive in Cold Ashby until around 1843 going on the birth of Alfred their 3rd child but the 1st one to be born in Cold Ashby so looks like they just missed each other by around 5 years.
Strange thing is it was their 2nd child, Mary Ann born 1842 who married William Deacon in 1874 who where my 2nd Gt Grandparents.
Small world!

Hi Tony

Yes, I think there were plenty of Deacons in Fleckney, I visited the church graveyard (as you do) when I was over there a couple of years ago and found a few ancestors residing there.

As to the Letts, we may have a connection there as my Letts mainly came from Cold Ashby and Clipston, the latter being 5 miles from Sibertoft (only 41 minutes walking time according to google and I'm sure, quicker by horse and cart). Although I always note all blood relatives and their spouses to myself, I can't find a Jane and the newer Letts seem to end up in Leicester. My earliest Letts is William, my 3rd Gt Grandfather born 1816 in Lilbourne which is a tad further away from Sibertoft, but if you have any info into the Letts, I'd be very happy.

Hi Tony

No, sorry, although I have about 25 Deacons in my tree, I have no Elizabeth. Also the "Kilby" in my interest refers to the surname "Kilby" and they all came from the Melton Mowbray area.

Since I posted the 1st reply to you, I have googled "Deacon Fleckney" to see if anything interesting would appear and although no Elizabeth's have caught my eye, I noticed an piece about The Old Crown Inn, Fleckney which my 2nd Gt Grandfather was Head of household and resident in the 1871 census. The Inn was built by a Thomas Decon in 1797 so thanks for making me hunt the Deacons today and finding that. I'm sure you have anyway, but it's worth googling "Deacon Kilby" and wading through the pages just to see what comes up.

I will, of course, make a note of your "Elizabeth Deacon" interest and the next time I am at the Records office in Wigston, I will have a look although, as I said, I no longer live in England so it will be on the next visit.

Happy hunting

Hi Tony

Deacon is my paternal Grandmothers name and I have traced back to John Deacon (3rd gt Grandfather) who was born around 1789 in Fleckney. I no longer live in England so it's impossible for me to visit the Records office so like you, I await FreeReg to transcribe the Fleckney records.

Good luck with Searching

Derry (Londonderry) / Re: Gargin in Londonderry
« on: Monday 07 July 14 12:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi Kingskerswell

Many thanks for that.  The Market Harborough parish records stated on 3 different children that the Mother Susannah Gargin was from Londonderry, but I can understand that stating your name of "Cargin" with maybe a Derry accent to a Leicestershire vicar could have sounded like "Gargin". There are so many variations of that name.
As I have ancestors on the other branch of my tree in Inishowen, it maybe worth a visit to see what records are held that I could search through.
Again, thanks for your help.

Regards
