Derry (Londonderry) / Clifford/Kimberley marriage
« on: Monday 04 November 19 13:52 GMT (UK)  »
hi, i'm searching for confirmation of a marriage between by grandparents in Northern Ireland, in 1938 or earlier. My nan was Mary (May) Catherine (of Kathleen) Clifford (b. 1914) and my grandad was Reuben Kimberley (b. 1914). Also any births for Frederick Reuben Kimberley (b. 1938), Yvonne (b. 1940?) and my dad James David Kimberley (b. 1945) all in either Derry or Co. Tyrone. My grandad was a British Soldier. i'm really struggling to find and records.

thanks

did he have connections in the bicycle trade as there was a Flavell cycle firm (Flavell & Co) that existed in the early 1890s in Coventry. they sold 'Reform' safety cycles.

i'll double check but that would seem to be the same family to me, so thanks.

Not entirely sure i have the right Douglas anyway. I'm trying to find out the origins of a J. Douglas who was active in Coventry as a cycle manufacturer 1875-1879. He traded as J. Douglas & Co., but was also in partnership with Josiah Jackson as Jackson & Douglas.

There was an 1877 patent for a James Douglas, manufacturer of Coventry concerning making improvements to bicycles, so i assume that the J. Douglas is James Douglas (b. 1837).

Warwickshire / Re: Watchmakers of Coventry
« on: Monday 11 March 13 16:17 GMT (UK)  »
does anyone have any information on the watchmakers of coventry 1841 - 1900 particularly Charles Flint. I have found out that Charles lived in Craven street coventry in 1851 and he employed 41 people. I know his house is on the coventry watchmakers heritage trail and now bears a plaque with his name on it.
Any info will be great

dawnw

quite a few mentions of Charles Flint in the British Newspaper Archives c1850-1870s. Looks to have been active in local politics etc.

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / James Douglas
« on: Monday 11 March 13 15:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, i'm struggling to find a James Douglas on a couple of the census returns (1871/1881).
He was born in Coventry in 1837, the son of Joseph Douglas an ironmonger of Cross Cheaping, Coventry. At 14 (1851) he was still in Coventry as an ironmonger apprentice, and by 1861, was lodging in London at the home of William Barber, an Ironmonger from Coventry.
I can't find James again until 1891 as a widower, ironmonger labourer.

thanks

thanks again
