Tipperary / Re: Knockavilla Parish Church of the Assumption

Hi,
Ballintemple would be the most popular of local grave yards, but there are old grave yards in Ballygriffin & Ballinahinch both in the parish which may have been used, even if they attended church in Knockavilla they may not be buried in parish, my family are natives of the area & are buried in several places outside of the parish.
The fact you mention Glenough, I would think you could also try Rossmore

She may have been in St Luke's Hospital, This was the mental hospital depending on the disability. but her death should still be registered in Clonmel, so maybe she was in a home futher away?

Indeed it makes life v difficult when looking for pre civil registry info, especially if some of your details are vague.

Hi SRBA,
I attended the school from 1972-1980 and from what i remember the children were there up to about 1976/77ish. I don't know what year the children started to attend the local because they had their own school in the convent and when that closed they attended local school as day pupils, I know there is a local book "Education in Knockavilla" that might have the info in it. I'm sure i have a copy in the house I will look for it & let you know any info that  is relevent.

Hi SRBA,
I'm not sure where you would get records, but you could try The Presentation Convent in Thurles Co Tipperary, that's where the children went when Dundrum closed, I presume records would also have gone there, as i said i think that was late 1970's, I know some of the children went to local school with us but that was just day school, they returned to Dundrum every evening.

Some of the children from there went to local primary school, Knockavilla in the 1970's when the convent closed the remaining children went to Presentation Thurles, which is still there today.

Mary was married in solohead in 1866 aged 20 according to marriage cert, we will have to see if she was baptised there and go from that. lets hope she was born there & not in Lattin as we believed as their records only start in 1846, we believe birth years to be Mary 1846 and Jim 1845.
