Orielbenfro,

Good grief, what can I say?

So it seems that Paul and Anne (died when James was 11) are almost certainly the parents of the JP in my tree!

As Paul is shown as a cooper aged 69 in 1841, then those Phillips you mention in an earlier reply as burgess in Llanfallteg could be my next line of enquiry.

I intend to take a break down west when the Narberth museum has re-opened, take a good look around the area and visit the R.O.

If you are ever in Mid-Wales, please get in touch, I owe you one.

Regards,

Orielbenfro,

Many thanks for your offer of help.
I look forward to what you may find.

Are they a helpful lot at the RO, if you do not have much experience of research?

Regards,

morganllan and Orielbenfro,

Many thanks for your quick responses.

The James P you mention is the man whose parents I am trying to trace.

There are some amazing family trees around that explain the Vickers line, Anne's father was a blacksmith from Staffordshire who moved to Tenby where Anne was born, before he returned to the Midlands. The trees show the Vickers line to the 1660's in Staffordshire.

How can I set about tracing the parents of JP, born around 1800 in Llanfallteg (1851 census)? I do not have a marriage certificate until a couple of generations later.

The 1799 marriage of Paul Phillips does seem interesting, especially if he is the same PP who remarried in 1818, so Anne could be JP's mother.

Thanks again.

Hi,

Thanks for that. I don't suppose you have any information on Paul Phillips b around 1770 9married to Phebe), who I am hoping is the father of James Phillips born around 1800 in Llanfallteg?

Thanks

Hi,

My ggggrandfather, James Phillips is shown on the 1851 census as a cooper living in Crinow and born in Llanfallteg.

I'm trying to find out more on this Phillips line and the LLanfallteg connection.

On the 1841 Crinow census a Paul Philipps appears (James is also spelled the same way), he is also noted as a cooper, so I imagine he may be James' father.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

I'm new on this site so please bear with me.

Hope you're still researching.

My ggggrandfather was a James Phillips, shown as born in Llanfallteg around 1800 on the 1851 census and living in Crinow as a cooper. The family then stayed in the area until the end of the century.
Do you have any more information on the Phillips' of Llanfallteg? (JP is shown as 'Philipps' on the 1841 census.

Regards,
