I think Gortonboy is correct since the year, month and name match.
The short record of the Census record that Ancestry.com has shows only Joseph Beveridge and American records show the middle initial of B.
The line below has "joseph beveridge b c1849". Is the "b" for his middle initial or born? Is the "c1849" for circa 1849?
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go for a birth or baptism record? I tried following a link posted, but got lost in the ScotlandsPeople site.
