Hi
Well its not as it seems, yes you are right Charles married twice and both was named Jane.
1871 Charles is the son of
John Elgey    58
Ruth Elgey    53
Charles Elgey    25
George Elgey    22
Elizabeth Elgey    19
Jame Arne Elgey    13
---------------------------------------
1881 Census
Charles Elgy    34
Jane Elgy    29
Ruth Elgy    7
Margth. Elgy    4
Elizth. Elgy    1
---------------------------------------
1891 Census
Charles Elzy    45
Jane Elzy    36
Ruth Elzy    18
Jane A Elzy    14
Elizabeth Elzy    11
Charles Elzy    7
--------------------------------------
1901 Census
Charles Elgg    54
Jane Elgg    46
Charles Elgg    17
Isabella Elgg    9
Robert Gile    49
Sarah A Arel    17
--------------------------------------
It does look like 1st wife Jane Elgy Nee Robson died in 1888 and often the men had to re marry so they had someone to look after the children.
He did re marry Jane Gill in 1890 at Durham.
Both Jane & Robert Gill was registered under Hexham which is a part of Northumberland Jane in 1854 & Richard in 1852. i feel sure these are the same Jane & Robert.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Onto the First Jane Robson
I have no hesitation to say that these are the same family
1861 Census:
Thomas Robson    50
Margaret Robson    40
Joseph Robson    14
Susanne Robson    12
Mary Robson    10
Jane Robson    8
Elizabeth Robson    6
Dorothey Robson    4
John Robson    6 Months
--------------------------------------
1871 Census:
Thomas Robson    58 - Widower
Jane Robson    18
---------------------------------------
The areas named are of the same area and i think you will find that if you got Jane Robson Birth record it would name mother as Margaret. There are quite a few death records for Margaret Robson between 1861 - 1871 so i can not help with that.
 i have found 1851 Census:
Thomas Robson    44
Margaret Robson    33
Margaret Robson    12
George Robson    10
Thomas Robson    8
Joseph Robson    6
Susanna Robson    4
Mary Ann Robson    8 Mo
----------------------------------------------

I do feel this is the line you should be going down hope i have not made matter worse.
Oh by the way Mother in Law her Grandmother was Lucy Elgie, Lucy's father was Simon Elgie from Seaton Durham so if you have come across any of them please let me know.

Thanks and hoping i have guided you down the right line even if ages are sometimes out a little.

Regards
Karen

Hi Trish

Thanks for that, i also have found this record of a Susannah Codd and wondered if she might have been the mother. Joseph & Elizabeth had 9 children in all that i do know and yes one of them is Susannah b.1780.
I might seem that Joseph was born around 1744 and is the child of Susannah Codd i have thought of going down this line but i am putting together the book which you can do on Ancestry and would like to know that all info is correct, i think possibly next time i am home which will be next year i will have to hire a car and go there that's if nobody has managed to go for me anyone that live's near to Winterton of Lincoln Records office.  :D
Some of your finding i already have but it is great to put date to the years, thank you very much for that.
I am hoping that soon they will transcribe Winterton so i can get more info.
I am glad you thought in the same line as me and maybe i can move back some more now we think Joseph & Susannah could be Joseph's parents.
I am just waiting for someone to get me a copy of Joseph & Elizabeth's Marriage but not been successful yet, maybe i can talk my mother in law to go to Lincoln for me one day.

I thank you for your help and don't hesitate if you find anything else out for me.

Regards
Karen

I live in America and can not get to Winterton, Lincolnshire.

Looking for anyone that can help with parish records in Winterton 1775.
Joseph Sanderson married Elizabeth Lawson on 13th May 1775 and i would like to know who is his parents, was they from Winterton as i know later on some family went over the Humber to the Hull area of which i have plenty of info about but none of Winterton.
I have Joseph born around 1746 and the only one i can find is being born in Deeping St James, Peterborough Area.

Can anyone help move me back some more years with my family.

Regards
Karen

I have found a Kathleen Croft b.Ilford Essex 1900 in the 1901 Census she is 6 mths old and being nursed by Lillian Ford (her mother) You say Kethleen was born in 1900 so as the census records are taken in April it would make this Kathleen born around September time the year beofe being 1900.

Can i ask how you have the names Sarah & Frederick Croft.

Trying to help
Karen
