Seem to have Anna, daughter of Jacobi and Elizabeth, but not sure about which William we are dealing with. If we have the right Anna she is the daughter of Elizabeth Pearson but still looking for connection to Ecclesfield.

Looking for Twibell history around Yorkshire and beyond, pre 1700
After many years of trying a wall came tumbling down. (Thanks to an alert from another genealogist re a transcription error.)
My 5 time direct on the female line Grandmother Rhode ( 1792?) Speight's mum was Susannah Smith  ( 1764) daughter of Susannah Staniforth who married to Thomas Smith of Hood Hill Wentworth in 1749/50  ( churchwaRDEN still using old calendar).  The marraige at Ecclesfield has Susannah mistranscribed as Susannah Wentworth.  Thomas is from wentworth.

Susannah Staniforth (1726-1772) was the daughter of William Staniforth and Anna nee Twybell . they married in Ecclesfield in 1707 . William possibly born Whitley?

It is Anna ( could be Hannah, could be Susannah) Twybell Twibell who is now of interest in the nuts and bolts game. Has anybody come accross any of these. Apparently born 1684 but no evidence yet! tree is on ancestry and open

sorry. Yes Rhoda/ Rhodia/ Rhodey was supposedly born in Swinton. She did indeed marry John Crofts from lincolnshire and my G 3 times grt Grandmother was Elizabeth Crofts.

I have a feeling somebody will have seen a Herodia or similar born to a Suzanne Smith or a Sarah around 1792. All the Wiliams and John Sp[eight go back to the same paternal line, it is her Mother that intrigues me!

Was It Susan Smith daughter of Thomas the farmer miner, or Sarah Law? Think Anne Marr too late, and so is Mary Maw. If you know differemt..;)

Has anybody any knowledge of this lady? She was my 4 time great grandmother on the direct female line. Was she indeed born a Speight? Think she is daughter of william Speight and Susan Smith, but first reference to her in Wath records is a birth of a child before marriage. Has anybody seen the bastardy order?

Thank you. I have a feeling that may be where I need to look. The subject in question is actually Maria/ Elizabeth Dunn. Probably born around 1792. On 1851 census as Maria Phillips on St james square. Stepdaughter Charlotte is daughter of Elizabeth Dunn wife Of Robert Philips. Think there are two women.  Crux  f the issue is Birth of Benjamin Phillips and Godfrey Dunn Phillips. When was Benjamin born..?!

I now believe Robert was born to Edward Phillips and Sarah (nee swan) and died in 1848, at swan lane minories london. Still all wrapped up in mystery, especially what happened to Maria and or Elizabeth, weere they one and the same? If so some of the birthdate for children are a bit odd.

Find myself on business near pontypool tomorrow and wondering whether to visit graveyards...
If anybody out there has any further ideas, particularly about Robert and Maria I'd love to know. :D

Merry Christmas

My 4 times great grandmother was Rhoda Crofts nee Speight. She married in 1815 in Rotherham to John Crofts and prior to this apparently had at least one illegitimate son, Charles Brameld Speight. The father was said to be Thomas Brameld.

1) I'd love to see a copy of the bastardy order, and 2) despite trawling through Swinton, Wentworth and Wath Births, cannot find Rhoda. Her father was probably William Speight, ( Not John as many have assumed) Her mother could be Susan Smith, Sarah Law, Ann Marr or Mary Maw.

These were relations of, if not the actual Rockingham Pottery Speights. She may be a posthumous daughter of John who died in a coal pit accident in 1791 or may be illegitimate herself. I'm interested in my direct female line!!   ::)

My 3 times gret Grandma was Elizabeth Crofts who also had an illegitimate son.

Any body got anything?

I found the BROOKS census this morning but thankyou for the confirmation Ian.

That marriage had eluded me so I am now very happy.  That sorts out the original Maria Ann and i have located Matilda Ann and George Cox down in Gravesend in 1861.  Sarah M (their daughter) who survives to marry in london in 67 is with them. Mary ann is visiting her cousins....

Can anybody nail Robert (the apparent bankrupt) Swan PHIL(L)IPS anywhere after 1823?  He has children so he's somewhere, possibly in a 'additional' marriage. Got a possible on Vauxall Bridge with another daughter Mary Ann in 1831.

If I can find his death I may find his birth because I think that it may be pONTYPOOL /BRISTOL/ MONMOUTH

The little girls match. Maria Cox 3 in 1851 Mary 1 in 1851
Dates tally for Matilda still being Philips in 1842.
That would make the little cox girls niece by marraige to Maria Philips poss wife of Robert Swan Philips. Makes them cousins of Henry Dunn Philips.

Have found Mary M Philips in 1841 on northern side of Belgrave square aged 50 with
Harriott e aged 20;  is this the one who Marries John Robert French?
Elizabeth A aged 15
Maria E aged 14

Thankyou
Judy
