Down / The Ten Towns of Lecale
« on: Sunday 09 June 24 04:22 BST (UK)  »
I have been reading the work of Francis Chambers, he talks of the Ten Towns of Lecale being -

'Tobermoney, Upper Ballyhossett, Lower Ballyhossett, Lower Grange, Middle Grange, Upper Grange, Upper Ballyclander, Lower Ballyclander, Ballygallum, & Ballymote'.

Please can anyone help with which 'Grange' he is referring to? I am trying to make a map of the ten towns, but I am stuck with his referral to Grange as there are a number of places with it in the name.

I believe I descend from the MARTYNS that received 30 acres in the debenture of the Ten Towns that some loyal Presbyterians received in thanks from the Government.

Please, if I have the terminology wrong, could you correct me. I am struggling to understand what all this means.

Any help would be very welcome as I am trying to write a mini article on my MARTINS of Tobermoney.

Thank you Simon.
Do you have any idea who Richards parents were?
Do you know if Richard ran a pub?

Yes I did. Thank you for looking. I just wanted to be sure, according to Richard's marriage certificate his father was Richard CRA(Y)STON a victualler. I can find nothing looking likely to be them.

Can anyone who has access to above please have a look at the baptism for Richard CRAYSTON on 26 January 1926. Familysearch has his mother as Mary and his father as ?CRAYSTON.
I would like to know if it mentions if he was illegitimate or if the entry is incomplete.

Thank you so much.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Another HAIGH family
« on: Saturday 20 August 22 23:18 BST (UK)  »
Just in case anyone is looking for the same family.
I have a Joseph HAIGH marriage in 1794 in Thorne, who stated his father was James HAIGH of Huddersfield, a butcher. Does being a butcher help narrow the search?
Can anyone claim him?
Joseph was born in 1769, so his father would have to have been born before 1750?

Thank you Mckha489 and everyone else that helped. I shall print it all off and work through it very slowly, so I can try and make sense of this tree.

Thank you to all the replies. I appreciate all the help.
William Robert #1 is the man I am looking for. Born C1833
According to his son's marriage notice in 1889.(William Robert #2). His father William Robert#1 was of Pickmere.  but he was here in NZ before 1863? Would they have put Pickmere if he had been in New Zealand for more than 20 years?

 This was William Robert's( #2), 1st marriage.

William Robert #1 came to NZ sometime before 1863, (time of his marriage to Georgina), which incidentally makes the Obituary for Georgina incorrect. They have a son William Robert(#2) in 1868. William Robert #2 and all his siblings were born in New Zealand.

I am doing this for a friend, she cannot afford to buy Certificates. So I am doing this a bit hogtied.

Okay, I am so confused. I can't make this make any sense.
Something is not right with this tree.
I think I will have to start her tree again from scratch.
