Thank you very much for your replies - I didn't know much of the info you supplied but I can now fill in more details of that family.
Trish - I found it very interesting to read that you say the Pippey family were living in 3 Beaufort Place in the 1841 and 1851 censuses. But if you jump ahead to the 1891 census, you will see that Ann Pippey's widower (she died in 1885) was living in 5 Beaufort Place.
I didn't think Ann ever moved back to Beaufort Place after she was married, but it's certainly strange that her widower lived in the house next door when she was growing up, some 40/50 years later. I can't quite get my head around that one!
Also, it was either a big house or a rather tight squeeze - 12 lodgers!?!
