Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Re: COOPE at Habrough
« on: Tuesday 27 May 14 21:46 BST (UK)  »
Jennifer c, thanks for the reply. I'm hoping for pictures of the station or their house, which I presume went with the job of station master. Beyond that, Fred was born on June 22, 1867, so I would imagine that he may have been christened locally. Any info would be gratefully received. I did call at Habrough last sunday on my way home after a weekend in Hull, but, no one I spoke to had any info. Many thanks, STEVE.

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / COOPE at Habrough
« on: Tuesday 27 May 14 20:52 BST (UK)  »
I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light on my GGrandfather and his family ? He was Alfred Richard Coope and he was the Station Master at Habrough railway station in 1867. He moved there from Sheffield with his wife Clementina and son Henry Samuel Coope. Their second son Fred was born in Habrough in June 1867 and I think they left the area in 1869. I'm hoping for pictures of the station, or better still, the station masters house. Many thanks in anticipation. Steve   :)

Nottinghamshire / Re: Trent Lane Railway Crossing
« on: Thursday 08 August 13 21:02 BST (UK)  »
Not only been in touch with NRM (still waiting for reply) but also the ::enquiries@midlandrailwaystudycentre.org.uk. My enquiry was passed to Glynn Waite at ::
http://www.rowsleyassociation.org.uk/ and has really done himself proud. Not only has he identified my family correctly, but has filled me in on most of Samuels railway career. He was at Ambergate but moved to Trent Lane as a crossing keeper in 1873 until his health got the best of him in 1884, that made him 73 years old !! Credit where it's due, many thanks to Glynn for the info.  :)

Thanks for the info coming in, I had seen the picture of the present location via google earth, my old ancestor must have been fit because he was doing the job in 1881 at the age of 69 years old. Have been to NRM at York today and they tell me that they will do a 30 minute search for free if I email them. Will keep you informed.  :)

Can't say, but he had worked on the railway for 30 years and one of his sons was a warder at Nottingham Gaol, so, maybe he wanted a gentle job to reach his retirement. This unfortunately wasn't the case.  :(

Hi there, This is a real coincidence as I'm also trying to trace a crossing keeper at Trent Lane. My GG grandfather was Samuel Coope who was the crossing keeper in 1881. The census lists him and Louisa, she being 43 years old and listed as his wife, but it was his daughter. Before this he was a railway policeman at Ambergate in Derbyshire. Would appreciate any help on this.

Many thanks Trish, It was a sticky finger job. My Sarah WAS 1899 so you were right on the button. I now have a few new leads and will follow them up. Charles Parkman and Mary Ann Snelgrove were Sarah's Grandparents, I'm looking to see if either of those had siblings as there seems to be another family living close to mine and I have to sort out the children !
Many thanks for your support.

Gloucestershire / Gibbards of Bristol

Hi there, I'm a newbie to the site and so far I'm really impressed with it's content. I'm looking into my maternal grandmothers family, Gibbard, living in Bristol. Sarah, my Gmother was born in 5, Aiken St. in 1889. Her father was William John born 1860 in Bristol. Am interested in any family connections.
Thanks in advance.
STEVE
