Armagh / Re: Muircroft/Moorcroft

I just found my great grandparents on the 1891 Census of Scotland.  Their names were James and Jane Moorcroft. They were born in Co. Armagh according to Ireland Census 1901 and 1911 so they were either living temporarily or on holiday in Scotland in 1891. The address was Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland so we must be connected somewhere.

I am still trying to find marriage record and birth records for both James and Jane.

There is a lot of information on Garmonys on rootsweb and their links with Armagh.

Hi
When you said that Elizabeth Fulton and William Monaghan had two daughters, where did you get that information? And what were their names? Do you know where Elizabeth and William were married?  My grandfather went to live in Tassagh when his mother died so I am thinking that this William may well be related. I noticed on census that that had two children but one had died. Their daughter was called Mary.

hi. Thanks for the reply. Very interested in your Monaghan connection. You are correct. Agnes Monaghan's mother was Margaret Jane (née Warnock)and her father was John. They died quite young and are buried in Newtownhamilton COI. They lived in Dundalk street also as you mentioned relations of yours living there. Agnes had 3 brothers William (killed in World War 1) Robert (survived the war and settled in Bessbrook where his grandchildren still live) and John (my grandfather. When Margaret Jane Monaghan died in 1905, the family were split up. William and Robert were in the army, Agnes i believe was a servant to the Sleeths and went to US with them in 1906 and my grandfather John ended up in Balleer, Tassagh. It is said that he went to stay with a relative possibly an uncle. There is a William and Eliza(beth) Monaghan in Tassagh but they have only one daughter that i can see on census. I wonder is that the William and Elizabeth that you are talking about?

Hi
I just stumbled upon your posts.  Thank you for your unintended assistance.
My great aunt was the Agnes M Monaghan that lodged with Sleeths in north Warnock Avenue.
Information will help me to search her through census records in US as she is the missing link and i have researched her family here in Ireland.
Are you in Ireland or US?
My former principal is Sleeth from Co. Armagh and i believe that he has relatives in Philadelphia still.

Hi
Very interested in your post on Moorcrofts. My grandmother was Mary Ann Moorcroft and lived in Darkley in 1901. Parents were James and Jane Moorcroft although James is not present at census.
Your photograph is excellent. unfortunately i have no idea who they are but i do see a resemblance in the lady on the right and a moorcroft relative living today.
