thanks for that info it does sound like her we were trying to find out how my ggrandmother got the money she had for her buisinesses because we had heard that she had worked in a cotton mill. the mind bogggles as to how she came to own astreet of houses and a bakery/confectionary shop

i am trying to find out some info on my ggrandmother a harriet hampshire i know she was born in 1879 in rochdale and married a walter llyal lumsden in about 1904 but that is all i know i dont know where to look for any brothers and sisters or other relatives of hers all my mother knows is that she owned at one time a lot of property in oldham i dont know when she died or where she is buried any help would be great

i think my mum is a bit in shock at the moment we thought the baby might be to early mum said even though she was only 3 at the time she remembers her mother being taken from the house in agony on a chair and that she never returned like i said it is very sad because nobody ever spoke of anything then hopefully she will come to terms with it all slowly

it seems to get sadder i don`t know how to tell my mum yet,my grandmother was called muriel constance lumsden nee shorrock born in 1910 in east stonehouse we think she died in 1937or there abouts giving birth i have found out that she married my granddad john hampshire lumsden in 1933 but that she had brothers and sisters and only last week one of her brothers children came to see my mum and brought her a picture of her mother then told her about being pregnant before marriage

i have just seen another query over it and have just seen it was a workhouse and it was a place where a lot of still born babies were born and buried do you by any chance know where i would look for still born records my grandmother sadly died giving birth to a second child and i am presuming it was there

can anyone tell me if there was a nursing home in crumpsall at any time i have the address 123 cresent rd,crumpsall for my mothers birth she thought she was born in chadderton and has recently found out that her mother was disowned because she got pregnant with her in 1933 my mothers name was patricia muriel lumsden born 12-05-1934 any help would be much appreciated
