on the 17Th of December 1913 the bishop of Manchester , bishop Knox consecrated the parish church of St Jerome, Ardwick known at that time as Houghton memorial church. The parish was taken out of St Silas parish of Ardwick, which itself had come out of the parish of Manchester in 1842.

T he minister for the first ten years was  Rev. S. Sidebotham and from the years 1924-1928 the Rev. H. Kershaw.
a brief history of the church is given in the Parish Magazine for December 1963. in which the church is celebrated  its 50 years

for almost thirty years (1929-1958) the Rev J. Duncan. Glover was rector of St Jerome s
 
parish magazines for the period Jan 1936 to Feb 1937 are at Manchester central library these seem the only records of the church prior  world war 2 but there are copies of the parish magazines  covering various periods from 1949 onwards.

my ex wife grt grandad was the landlord of the hare and hounds pub  his name was murray family

was near syndall st and was demolished with the clarence, apsley house, victoria, richmond and the rutland in the syndall street clearence

2 story clifton house ( no.41) was next to the union pub and the 3 story raha house  (no 43 )  in 1976 the landlord of the union inn was in trouble with the brewery watney mann for opening the pub two hours late in the morning becaise of poor trade as a result of the the slum clearance on the 22nd of march he opened at the offial time of 11am and by closing time 3pm only seven customers had called in

Birmingham born in birmingham in 1874

married Mary Ann Clancy's born 1873

children Cathrine, Francis Charles, Walter, Ethel ( my gran ), Elizabeth, Martha and Anna

Mary Ann mother was  Catherine Clancy nee ?? born in Dublin in 1839

there is a rumour that Walter was a batman for an army officer in a Irish regiment also he was a tailor

he also worked at Salford docks

Martha died this year and is buried at Phillips park cemetery east of Manchester city centre  near the new Manchester city ground  she lived just at the back of the cemetery where her mother is buried with other family members

walter byron  hit his wife with a iron fender and fled thehousen thinking he had killed her  thats why no one can trace him
