Hi Roger

Please could you look out for William Clowes who I believe died in the workhouse around May 1826.

Thanks in anticipation

If I may chip in here with a request:

Russell Coombe (1855-1933) was born in Waterford, Ireland and became a surgeon in Exeter, Devon. He claimed to be a cousin of Captain Scott, and indeed represented the Scott family at a memorial service in Exeter Cathedral.

Other surnames in his lineage are Russell, Hawkins and Beaumont. He married Eve Johnstone.

I have been unable to establish how Russell Coombe and Scott were related, and hope some kind soul will know the answer.

Australia / Re: "Concord Farm" (NSW)

If it is of any help:

In 1815 Richard WESTCOTT (3 Pitt St Sydney) advertised for sale (Trove) Burr's Farm, in the district of Concord, 60 acres (and Serjeant Day's Farm -25 acres).

In October 1816, the Provost Marshall advertised an auction of a farm formerly known as Burr's farm in Concord in Campbell v WESCOTT.

It does look as though this Richard Wes(t)cott was the convict transported per Indian in 1810, also his wife Jane (Canada II, 1808) jointly convicted in Devon of possessing a forged pound note. They were living together in York St in 1822-4.

A Susan/Susanna Bissett b 1784 "widow" was transported to Tasmania in 1834 together with her daughter Mary Perkin "single" b 1806. Their native places were Crediton and "near Bideford".

I suspect they have a Monkleigh connection but have only just caome across these folk who I feel must be connected.

I'm not sure whether you will find this useful but I believe I have tracked down Sir Rupert KETTLE's second wife: Mary COOKE (1825-1884) d of William COOKE and Mary (nee SAVAGE).
William COOKE was a surgeon born in Wolverhampton who I believe died there in 1834 aged 32.

Christopher Lethbridge (who died in 1713) and his uncle Christopher Lethbridge (1610-1760) - erstwhile mayor of Exeter - were both descendants of various John Lethbridges of Walson near Bow (otherwise Nymet Tracey) although in Clannaborough parish.

These two Christophers both endowed charities supplying bread to the poor of Bow parish.
