Yorkshire (North Riding) / Guisborough Deaths 1891
« on: Saturday 25 February 06 15:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi. I have discovered that 2 children of my great grandparents died aged 1 and 4 in the June quarter of 1891 in the Guisborough civil registration district. Further investigation reveals that during that year there were approaching 300 deaths of children 0-5 years old in that district. I am awaiting copies of death certificates but in the meantime wondered if anyone has a view as to whether this was the norm or exceptional for that area in the 1890s or if there were any special circumstances leading to such a distressingly high infant mortality rate. As always any comments would be welcomed.

Norfolk / Burkell Hill, Norfolk
« on: Saturday 25 February 06 15:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi. Has anyone out there ever come across,or knows the whereabouts of a place called Burkell Hill in Norfolk? One of my ancestors appears in the 1891 census as having been born there. In other census' she is attributed as having been born at Hainford, Norfolk. On old and new maps I haven't been able to identify a Burkell Hill in that locality. Any help would as always be much appreciated.

Hmmmmmm.... having just seen John (Snr) was born at Trunch.. maybe there is a link after all. Certainly this info has opened up a whole new avenue of research for me. Thanks again.

Jericho. The St Faith ones are definitely of interest but I have no previous record of any family being from Trunch.

Hi

Would anyone out there with access to the 1851 census for Norfolk be kind enough to help me out by undertaking a look up in the 1851 for the household of  John Pratt (b circa 1810), wife Elizabeth (b circa 1807) and children likely to be Susan, Samuel, John & Robert in Horsham St Faith or Newton St Faith.

Many many thanks
