Devon Lookup Requests / ROSE
« on: Wednesday 01 February 06 08:44 GMT (UK)  »
A few weeks ago I made an enquiry about

Arthur Lionel ROSE death in Newton Abbot which lead to
the following probate details ... many thanks to look-up helpers

Arthur Lionel Rose:
Lavender Cottage Combe in Teignhead, Newton Abbot Devon died 26th September 1962 at Newton Abbot Hospital, Wolborough.  Administration with will to Ethel Ellen Rose, widow.

There is no death notice for Arthur in The Times.

(a) hope someone can anyone help with Ethel ROSE's death

(b) any other information on this couple would be appreciated... even wee snips can help ..

ie does this cottage still exist and what is the address?

Thanks if you can assist

Yes he was known as Lionel in the family to distinguish him from his father.

Hi Arronroots

Father is Arthur Veel ROSE
Mother is Isaie Marion ROSE nee CLAUDET

Woops, they married 9-9-1879 and were divorced
c 1891.

Have full records for the mother but no birth date for Arthur Lionel.

The father is proving a mystery after the divorce too.

Hope that helps
Again.. very appreciative of your efforts

Bob

Hi Arranroots

Excellent. The top one is the Arthur I'm looking for

And according to a scratchy family note Ethel Mary HARRISON is his wife

Not sure who the other lady, Annie Sarah HAMMOND could be.

Arthur and Ethel had a female child born 1908 who dies at a young age..... I don't have a record of her.

Yes I would be delighted if you could trace them back further.

He was born in London c1881

I have found another letter suggesting he and his wife were living at Whitstable in 1914.

Really appreciate your help.
Many thanks indeed

Hi Arranroots

Many thanks for your quick reply.

This sounds very much like him. Well done

The information I have on Arthur is very scant.

A 1908 family letter says he was recently married which fits your.......

"There is an Arthur who marries in 1907 in Sussex"

And a previous letter written in 1896 suggests he is:

"a chap who seems to be him at college in Brighton in 1901"

The handwriting is poor and I don't know the area but the school seems to be Margot or Margots.......

Have been looking for several years for him. There are very few Arthur Lionel Rose on file anywhere.

Yes I think it will be him...... would appreciate any further information that is available.

Regards

Hi Meliora

Thanks for explanation. Haven't had any experience with 1841 census.

After emailing you I did the sums and deduced sHarriet would have been 14 if it was the 1851 Census.

Also need help with

County N
County Y

What are these please

Again many thanks

Hi Jonathan, Meliora

Am delighted with your interest and find and many thanks for the wonderful detective work.

Meliora ... is the following from the 1841 or 1851 Census -- my hunch is the 1851:

HO107/684   book 17  folios  22
5, Chester Terrace, Pancras,

Harriet Stone  age 30  Ind.  born in Scotland
William Dennis  age 30  M S (Male servant)  b in county Y
Esther Hawkins  age 60  F S (female  ditto) b in c N
Anna Robins age 25  F S b in c N

I assume the "Ind" is Independent means ..... Right?

The age and birth place are a great help and that Esther
may be related in some way...  Brilliant

1000 thanks to you both and for your suggestions. Am impressed...

Regards
Bobnz
