Good News, Last night I was able to confirm that Thomas Smith and Ann Merrill are indeed David J Smith's parents. This was achieved by use of the 1841 census, all names match. Further, I have a potential lead on Thomas' Father, with evidence pointing to William Smith and Elizabeth Bales who were married October 12, 1789. If anyone can assist with that validation, you will have my heartfelt appreciation, Merry Christmas to all.
William

David, Thank you for the leg work on this issue. I think your theory is very possible, and I appreciate your thoughts on this. I am very pleased to have found so much on the Rimes side of the family, however unfortunate to have hit this road block with David James Smith. Perhaps with some more work on my end, we might find the truth through more investigation. Again, our family record reflects a birth year of 1820, yet the marriage cert clearly shows his age of 23 in 1849. I will print off all records I suspect of being attached to David, and work towards linking them all back to Thomas and Ann.
Regards,
William

David, If you have the opportunity, it would be very helpful to confirm if David J Smith of Farcet (my 3rd great grandfather) is the son of Thomas Smith and Anne Merrill of Farcet. Hope you are enjoying your time there,
Thank you,
William.

David, What an outstanding reply, and thank you. I have been gone for a bit, with hope I will have time on Tuesday to take a look at the "needs". Do you have any recommendations on where best to purchase Parish Records for Farcet?

IN looking at Thomas Smith / Ann Merrill who were married in Farcet, Hunts June 1, 1818 we have Thomas Merrill and FRANCIS RIMES as witness. I can only hope to get a copy of the marriage record from the County to validate and find T. Smith's father. Interesting on how close the Rimes and Smiths appeared to have been. Thanks again for the assist!

To David, DCB, Thank you for the feedback, I just saw your post. Yes, Thomas was a Laborer, David was a Carpenter, And yes, they were married in Farcet. When David moved to Cleveland, he started his own business in Building Trades. I don't know what Rimes Yards is, Earnest J Smith (Davids son) was in the cartage business and carried for General Electric. Elijah was also in the Building Trades, James went on to serve in the US Calvary, and fought Indians out west. My G Grand father, Leonard,  was a Commercial Agent for the Railroad. I believe your post has put me on a better line of sight. Thank you. William.

P.s. I had just re-read your post. Robert and Ann had another son baptized in 1833. The Robert Smith I had in my theory had died in/or about the same time "Caxton David" was born. I'll have to look at that again, and I am going off of my memory from a few months ago, but I recall Robert Smith being a bit Older than Anne Evans.

A fair Question, The reason for the confusion on my part is the fact that Aunt Evelyn had placed David James' Birthday as 1820, I am of the thought that she had possibly typed his date of birth from 1826 incorrectly, as a 6 can sometimes be written with a short tail and appear as a 0. However, I do question my own theory, which I had not explained in detail, that Thomas had adopted "Caxton David" from a relation such as a brother, etc. Thomas is clearly indicated as his father in the certified copy of entry of marriage that I have. "Caxton David" had a father by the name of Robert, and mother by the name of Anne Evans. "Farcet David" has a father by the name of Thomas, and if my research is correct a mother by the name of Ann Merrill. Since there is no record I have yet discovered that proves "Farcet David" was baptized with Thomas and Ann, I am left to question the fork in the road until I purchase the CD records of the parish. If you have another idea, I am all ears. I have to say that I am impressed with Cambridgeshire and there work towards preserving family records, having this marriage copy brought me closer to the truth. I just have to keep at it...
