Aeroqueen, tks. I have several possibilities re Annie MacNaughtan parents and am fairly sure but can now hone these down.  She died in liverpool in 1862 giving birth.  Will be in touch in a couple of weeks with info.

Dunbartonshire / Gebbie Dumbarton/Cardross census 1851 lookup
« on: Friday 05 August 05 22:32 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for Dugald/Dougal(d) Stewart Gebbie (or possibly Gibbie) b c1830 but possibly 1827. No two records on this man match, in terms of age, or name spelling, but there is no birth record for any of the possible spellings or dates.

He married Anne or Annie McNaughtan in 1849 in Dumbarton/Cardoss, in the name of Dugald Stewart Gebbie.

Is he on census returns for 1841/1851? He has moved to Liverpool by 1861 but after 1853. His first 2 sons, James b 1851 and Daniel b 1853 were born in Scotland but there are no birth records for them. I sense a man who didn't like official records. Profession painter/grainer.

Any help would be very welcome.

Banffshire / Gordon Enzie Banff 1861 census lookup
« on: Friday 05 August 05 22:03 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to locate John (Alexander) Gordon b Enzie Banff in 1854/5. Although I found one John on Scotlands's People it was the wrong family.  (James Gordon Isabella Strachan and children.) I'm having (unfixable at present) problems with the image viewer needed so I can't use this site at present to look at records

Can anyone check the 1861 census for other John Gordon Enzie aged 6 or 7 years old - I know there is one - and supply details of family. He left Scotland for Cumbria by 1877 latest, so this census is my only chance of finding him; his birth isn't registered on Scotland'sPeople. Thank you.

Cumberland / Re: gordons of Brampton

My ggfather John Gordon and his children lived in Brampton. He only had one son, who moved to Liverpool but had 4 daughters.  What was your mother's name? If it part of the same family, I'll post the information for you. There is another Gordon family in Cumbria as well.
