Hi
Stephen( Mcclay),Clason, date of birth 1630 or 33,death 1699. Married Elizabeth Periment ..November 11,1654. Elizabeth was born 1631, died may 10,1714.He was born in Scotland.
Stephen was to have left Scotland due to cromwell's govt. Then he came to what we know as the U.S.
They married in Stamford,New haven Colony. His death was in Stamford,FairfieldCo.,Conn.
Elizabeth in later years was tried as a witch."The Trial in Fairfield".The Witch Trial of Elizabeth Clason.(1692,Sept.,25)She later was aquitted. Many of her neighbors signed a petion to help prove that she was indeed not a witch. There is the actual petion of signatures, yet I cannot recall who has it kept.A book has been written about her yet I have yet to read it.( such items are hard to come by).
Childran of thier marriage,were as follows.....Rebecca 1659,Samuel 1665,Mary1689,David 1662,Elizabeth 1666,and Stephan1657.
I have read many things and the name change was one that was of interest to me.Mcclay was supposidly or could have been Stephans last name before coming to the states.I have also read clason was his name there.I understand the variants of the spelling.Yet I would also like to know if he was clason.
Oh my I am winded..... Corrine

Hello everyone. I am searching for the following names, Mcclay, clason, clayson, clauson.
So I have been told that my ancestors were in Ireland then to Scotland. Stephan Clayson went to the states, and brother william went to canada.Stephan is my line and he is as far back as I have been able to go.
My curiosity has gotten the best of me, so now I am asking if there are any of these families that remain in Ireland and or Scotland.?Where can I look, who should I contact?
I know that there are so many other pieces to this family puzzle, yet I have hit that unforgiving brick wall. Can anyone help? Thanks
