Thank you all for the information.  I have spent hours looking through the Census data and this family does seem to be the most likely one.  I cannot find any others that match the possible dates.  It also seems that Sarah Ann Heaps had possibly 6 illegitimate children.

I cannot make out what it says!!  The more I look at it the more illegible it becomes.  Although I am now finding it hard to see why I thought it was Green Grocer.  I am hoping the actual certificate will be more legible.  And then I can start the process of tracking down Sarah Ann's family.  I would hope that the family that HeatherJulie posted is correct but I need to try to verify that.  I am still very new to all this and constantly worry that I am going to go down the wrong line because I want it to be right.

I have been told that it said Green Grocer on the marriage cert but looking at the link that Heatherjulie has posted I am not sure what it says.  I have ordered a copy of the marriage certificate and hopefully I will be able to shed some light onto it.  I  suppose it is possible for somebody to completly change there trade....but it is probably unlikely.

Thank you so much for the information.

Yes Gortonboy my theory is the children were born illegitimately.  I spent a long time searching for the children's birth certificate.  I was expecting them to be his first wife's children but as I can find no birth certificates linked to her I can only presume he was having an affair with the "servant"

On The marriage certificate Alfred (senior) is listed as a Greengrocer.  I am presuming that Elizabeth and Alfred are the children of Thomas Chappell as he certainly claims that on the 1901 and 1911 census.  Also Elizabeth names him on her wedding certificate as her father.  Alfred has signed as a witness under the name Alfred Chappell. Elizabeth is buried in the same family plot as Thomas Chappel.  I have not found any trace of Alfred after the marriage certificate so I am now wondering if he went back to the name of Heaps.

I will check out the information you have given me about the potential Heaps in the Census to try and verify if it is the right family.  Thank you for pointing me in the right direection

I find it interesting that Alfred Heaps married a Sherratt and Thomas Chappell married a Skerratt...I wonder if it was the same surname and the familys were somehow connected.   With what I am finding out about me family it seems anything is poosible!!  :-[

Hello,

My 2nd Great Grandmother Sarah Ann Heaps was born around 1865 in Stockport.  Her father is listed on her marriage certificate as Alfred Heaps.

In the 1911 census she is living with her husband Thomas Chappell and their two children, Elizabeth (my Great Grandmother) and Alfred.  In the Census it claims that they have been married for 16 years.  the marriage certificate is from 1906 so that would mean they had only been married 5 years.

I would love to find out more about Sarah Ann and her son Alfred.  Alfred was a witness on my G Grandmother Elizabeth's Marriage certificate but I cannot find anything else out about him and I am unsure where to look.  Also I would like to be able to trace the Heaps back and find out more about them but again I am unsure how to proceed.

I originally hit a brick wall with this side of my family as I assumed for a long time that my 2nd G Grandmother was called Sarah Ann Skerrat.  This turned out to be Thomas Chappells first wife and as far as I can make out she is not the Mother of either of the children  I went round in circles for months and eventually discovered a birth certificate for my G Grandmother Elizabeth under the name of Heaps.

Cheshire / Walker family from Wynbunbury 1900

Hello,

I am new to this so I hope I have posted in the correct place.

My Great Grandfather was Frank Walker.  As far as I can tell he was born in Wynbunbury around 1897.

His parents were George Walker and Mary Ann Knapper.

I only have the bare details and I was wondering if anybody could advise me on ways to gain more information.

I know that the family moved from Wynbunbury around the turn of the century.  My part of the family settled in Stockport and other parts of the family went to Northwich and possibly Winsford. I am looking to flesh out the information I have and also try to find out why the Walkers moved after living in Wynbunbury for a few generations
