Was your Mary Dore the witch of Beaulieu?

https://beaulieuhistorysociety.org.uk/images/newsletters/BHSNewsletter03Final.pdf

 :o

She was indeed - I came across her when doing some research and as she's got the same surname/area as friends of mine I'm now trying to a) find out more about her and b) find out if there is a link to my friend's family!

Yes.  Hampshire Genealogical Society have indexes for the whole county (excluding Isle of Wight) on CD.  This is the link to their shop:

Thanks again :) Just been to check it out and it looks like the shop is closed for the foreseeable due to the current situation. Looks like further research is on hold for the time being, but knowing the transcripts exist is a big help!

PR transcripts that I have on my book shelf.  :)

Nell

Thank you very much for taking the time to look for me :)

Are the Beaulieu register transcripts available to purchase online?

John & Elizabeth Dore had the following children baptised at Beaulieu

William 14 Oct 1728
Nicholas 27 Dec 1731

Then there is
William son of Thomas baptised 27 Jan 1743/4,
Thomas son of Thomas 20 Oct 1745

Hi Nell,

Thank you very much for this! Can I ask where you found this information? I'm now searching for parish register transcripts if they exist due to FindMyPast only starting mid 1750s.

According to FindMyPast the Beaulieu baptism on the site only start at 1752.

Oh gosh, yes that would explain it wouldn't it?!  ::) Whoops, thank you for pointing that out, I missed that entirely!

Which brings me to the next question then; apparently the registers exist from 1653 onwards - other than the record offices, which are obviously closed right now, are there transcripts available either to purchase or online? Off to search!

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Beaulieu baptisms - in Beaulieu or elsewhere?
« on: Wednesday 01 April 20 16:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm trying to piece together the family of a Mary Dore who lived in Beaulieu and died there c.1750. I have searched the parish registers for Beaulieu on FindMyPast, and there is only one baptism coming up for the time period for anyone with the surname Dore. My question is whether those born in Beaulieu could have possibly been baptised elsewhere, i.e was there a church/parish nearby that baptisms for those from Beaulieu took place?

Huge thanks in advance!

Family Bibles / Re: Catholic Bible - William & Mary SINGLETON
« on: Friday 02 August 19 22:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi TerriG,

I've just found this thread and wondering if you had any luck locating the family connected to this bible? My maternal line is Singleton, and the family has been in the Bournemouth area from the 1800s so there might be a connection. Off to do some digging!

Derbyshire / Re: William Fox, Ilkeston. Quaker Connection?

Thank you for this, definitely our guy!

He is Fox in the registers, and I have it on good authority from the local history society that "Rope" is in fact actually also Fox; the handwriting is questionable and has caused much confusion!

I don't have a death date for William or Bridget; they seem to peter out at 1657 in the registers and there is no trace of where they went after that. Looking into the Cambridge list now, thank you very much for the link.

Derbyshire / William Fox, Ilkeston. Quaker Connection?
« on: Saturday 18 July 15 18:21 BST (UK)  »
I've reached a brick wall, and wondering if any one here might be able to shed some light on a matter for me!  ???

I'm trying to trace a William Fox who was vicar of St Mary's church, Ilkeston from 1633 until the mid 1650s. His wife was called Bridget and they had at least six children in Ilkeston between 1633 and 1657.

I'm trying to establish several things - firstly, where the family came from prior to William taking up his post in Ilkeston, and where they went to afterwards.

The other thing I am exploring is whether William Fox was in any way connected to George Fox, the founder of the Quaker movement. Obviously the same surname doesn't necessarily mean a connection, but it is something I would like to either establish or disprove.

The research in both cases is part of a book to be published in 2016, and any information/help given will be duly credited and very much appreciated!

Willow :)
