Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Help with RAF records
« on: Thursday 26 February 15 21:11 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks to everyone for your help. Especially to Other Paul.

Unfortunately I don't know what his speciality was (Jack [john] Robert Dickerson - Service 637558) only he was a Flight Sergent. However I am not surprised about the odd ball location. It seems from the rest of the records he was always posted in place other then the main base for the sqn he was with. He was in coast defense so I think that is the reason.

Anyway thanks again for all of the help

Hi. I wonder if anyone could help me in deciphering my Grand-Uncles RAF service records. I can read the top line and from 248 Squadron down, but its the bit in the middle I am struggling with.

Any help or assistance would be greatly received.

Jbml,

Thx for the suggestion. I have actually contacted a few of the show still running and received a nice reply from say they had looked through the archives with no luck yet but would keep look. She also suggested that I try the specific breeders society, something I never thought of.

So I am awaiting a few a response from them as well.

Thanks for the advice. I will try the local papers, I was wondering if there was anything online.

I do seem to be having a lot of luck at the moment and just happened to come across a show catalogue for 1956 on ebay which I have bought. I am hoping that showing it around with the list of farms might jog some memories in my family.

Again thank you for the advice.

I am wondering if anyone can help me with research my grandfathers work. It seems he was a very successful cow herdsman, and had repeated wins at various Agricultural shows in Norfolk. Below is a list of the shows he won at in the mid 1950s. I have the ribbons he won, but they are very generic and don't give much details. I am guessing any documents went to where he was working at the time, which I don't know.

Kings Lynn Fat Stock, Milk Marketing Board Norfolk & Suffolk, Aylsham, Beccles MMBAI, Norfolk Fat Stock, Smithfield, Royal Norfolk and Fakenham & District

I have tried searching for the shows themselves but that only returns website for the current shows with no history. Does anyone know any online resources for these sort of records ?

Thank you for any suggestion you can offer.

Thanks KGarrad,

I had hoped I was missing something but looks like that is the problem. I guess I will never be able to work out his true age.

Thanks again.

Norfolk Completed Look up Requests / William DICKERSON – Binham
« on: Saturday 11 October 14 23:52 BST (UK)  »
I have been extremely lucky on my research. :) Between my ancestors not moving much around North Norfolk and extremely good parish records I have done well. However I have hit a bit of a wall with one individual and I am looking for advice on where to go.

I currently have the following for my Great (x3) Grandfather William DICKERSON;

Quote
Buried on 21 Feb 1858 in Wells Next the Sea age 80

Census 1851 Wells Head Age 75, Mariner born Binham (Wife Elizabeth Age 60)

Census 1841 Wells William Age 60 Mariner
Wife Elizabeth age 45
Daughter Mary DICKERSON 20
Thomas DICKERSON 15
William DICKERSON 15 (Shipwright)

Baptism records for Thomas and Mary confirming dates, parents and all in Wells
Baptism for William states his name is William Read Dickerson again in Wells at the correct time

Marriage of William Dickerson and Elizabeth Read – 20 Jun 1817 Wighton.

So now my problem on the Parish records for Wighton they state that Elizabeth was 24, which fits with the details I have for her. However for William they state he is 26. So I have the Census in 1851 (less useful 1841) and the Burial record stating he was born about 1776 but the Marriage stating 1791. I have been through all the Parish records for Binham and can not find a William Dickerson about either of the times.

I would really like to at the very least confirm his place of Birth or Baptism in Binham.

Thanks you for your help and advice.
