Hi Arkvision
Thank you so much for that info.My Paternal grandmother was Lena George  Moss (nee King) 1890-1973, the daughter of Henry King and Augusta.
I have a birth certificate for Augusta and Charles G M Cottle, also Henry King.I also have the marriage certificate for Augusta's Mother and father-Jane Legge and Charles james George.
I would like a copy any certificates you may have on this line, and of course can provide what i have.

Some of the information that I have found on the Legge Family comes from Burke's "A Geneoalogical and Heraldic History of the Colonial Gentry" .
According to Burke's, the family seats were Garrane [Parish of Kilbarron, near Finnoe] and Ballinderry in Tipperary, Ireland and Pinner in Middlesex, England. There were also Legges at Cullenswood, Dublin.
Michael Legge
b. 1764-68 Garrane, Tipperary
d. 1 August 1834 aged 66, buried at Finnoe, Co Tipperary [Information from Gravestone]. Burke's gives his date of death as 17 October 1834 at Dublin & age as death as 70, possibly his descendants in Australia had forgotten some of the details. Michael Legge was a Barrister in Dublin & apparently fell on difficult financial times, leading to most of his children emigrating to Australia. He married on 8th August 1796 at St Michaels, Limerick, Ireland to Blanche Vincent, daughter of John Vincent of Limerick & Clare and his wife Lucy Westropp. Her gravestone at Finnoe, Tipperary gives her date of death as 25 April 1819 [Burkes has 15 & her age as 46, giving her a birthdate of about 1773], although Burkes "The Landed Gentry of Ireland" gives her birthdate as 17th April 1775. [Blanche's sister Frances Legge married a William Legge; although it seems likely that he was related to Michael, unfortunately, Burke's doesn't indicate a relationship. Other known siblings were Thomas, Lucy, Rev George, Berkeley, Sarah & Elizabeth. From John Vincent's first marriage to Catherine Love, another brother Arthur Vincent.
Michael Legge & Blanche Vincent had seven known children [See Below].
Robert Vincent Legge, the younger son of Michael & Blanche, aged 23, escorted his five sisters; Eliza, Fanny, Mary, Alicia and Sarah to Tasmania aboard The Medway, arriving at Hobart on the 12th August 1824. Also travelling was the Solicitor Henry Jennings who would later marry Alicia. Also on board were Major Gray, & three Master Gray, so perhaps Mary Legge also became acquainted with her future husband on the long journey.
the oldest son was:
 William Vincent Legge
b. abt 1798 Dublin, Ireland
d. ?
THE OBOVE TAKEN FROM:

The above may or may not be MY Michael Legge but how many soliicitors of the same name ,locality and period can there be?.

Hi Trish
As you say,the info on this tree in Ancestry is really screwed up.i originally had jane legge as born in 1817 but unlikely as her husband was born in 1833/4, aged 17, even had her married to a Turner and heading off to Australia.
Hopefully the jane Legge born in 1831 that you mentioned might get me back on track.
The Charles James George(warrent no 29333) i mention is Janes husband who was a candidate for police in 1851,a police officer in marriage certificate but he resigned from the police only 3 days later where i have him in later cencuses variously as a merchant seaman(or even a tin miner).I don't have Charles fathers wife either,if he did in fact marry 1815 to ann then he would also only have been about 17 when he married.
i have a query off to a tree about the Michael Legge in tipperary:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~becher/legge_family_of_rodeen.htm
waiting to hear from her
So to answer your question; I'm trying to look for jane Legge and her father Michael Legge + family.I have enough info on Janes husband(Charles) and his family.
Sorry for mucking you about,i'm buried in a quagmire of misinformation from anc.
regards
Peter

bugger-disregard initial post--looks like i will have to go back to Susanna jane legge(not legg) and start again-her father was a solicitor, not a farmer so not james.
Charles james legge was born in 1833,married in 1851 at age 18 even though certificate says full age. If his father is the michael (born 1816) that married Ann harris then they had Charles when he was only 17,didnt marry til 1840 so illigitimate .
It looks like i need to firm up Susanna jane legge, she can't have married john turner in 1841 because that susanna turner died in (dugong?) Australia.
Confused yet --I am
Oh well, back to the drawing board
