Thanks Graham

So it is a possibility Henry who died in 1777 is my Henry but I’ll keep looking. It makes sense if it him as his wife remarried in 1785

Henry Corney, born 1746 in York apparently died in Bombay in June 1777. I found the info on FindMyPast and its from the catalogue 'Parish register transcripts from the Presidency of Bombay, 1709-1948'.

The image is just a handwritten register and says Henry Corney solider.

Can anypoint point me to any other information that may give more details on Henry so I can hopefully confirm if he's 'mine'

Thank you

The Common Room / Re: Anyone searching for CATTLE surnames?
« on: Tuesday 04 February 20 16:07 GMT (UK)  »
:) Hi everyone,
anyone searching the elusive Cattle surname coming from the London
area? I have lots of Cattles starting in 1800 in Clerkenwell, St Pancras
have not gotten back any further. I was told by a family member that
they came from Spain but no indication of that in records!

Appreicate this post is from many years ago, but I have Cattles in Clerkenwell & St Pancras. If you're still on here minnieminer, hope you see this & we can compare people :-)

I thought the trial William could be William Torry Cattle 1804.

Jennifer

Didn't think of that possibility. Something else to look into. Thank you

There is a burial for a William Cattle 23/12/1825 aged 44 Spa Fields Clerkenwell and

Elizabeth Cattle aged 61 burial 27/6/1841 St James Clerkenwell address St Helena Place. I have checked the 1841 for this address and no sign of the name Cattle.

Jennifer

Now these - going by the childrens ages would fit date wise. Even though theres no Cattles at that address, I'll do some investigations. Thank you Jennifer

A trial 21/10/1839 Middlesex - William Cattle aged 36 - imprisonment.

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer
Don't think this is the right one as he would have only been 6 when Enoch was born  :)

Yes, that's what I meant - I'm thinking that William Henry who died in 1808 fathered the 1802/1804 children so they're nothing to do with Enoch & the rest

Ahh, got you!!

Hmm, that William Cattle may be buried in Yorkshire in 1836

Do we have any information on the parent's deaths?

Nothing at all I'm afraid.

This is the dilemma....

Before Christmas, I was in contact with a gentleman on Ancestry who is the 'official' keeper of the Cattle history for the Yorkshire area (he's been researching it for decades)
and
From a different source, I received a Cattle pedigree that was apparently created by a professional genealogist years ago
but
While these 2 sources have a lot of similarities, there are also a lot of differences; people who appear on my pedigree appear on this gentlemans tree, but with different parents/siblings. (None of the Cattles were very imaginative when it came to naming their children!)

Now i don't know which of these 2 sources are right or wrong, so I decided the best approach was to ignore what I had and go back to Enoch and go from there.

From the pedigree, this is the information going backward from Enoch:

Enoch (I know his details are spot on)
William Cattle - bapt 19 March 1786 in Gilling by Richmond
William Cattle  - was a Breeches maker, born July 1761. Got freedom of York in 1783, married Catherine Wright in 1782. Supposedly died Cape of Good Hope (no dates available for this)

I can find details on both the Williams listed above, but cannot categorically make the connection to Enoch and London - and that's what I think I need to find.
