Derry (Londonderry) / Re: William Kilpatrick, born in Coleraine about 1932
« on: Saturday 08 December 18 17:11 GMT (UK)  »
My Great Great Grandfather was born about 1832 in Coleraine about 1832. H emigrated to Scotland and married my Great Great Grandmother in Kilmarnock,Scotland in 1852. His Irish parents were William Kilpatrick and Jane Smith. Whether William had any siblings I do not know as I have found the Irish Records not the greatest for doing any research William Kilpatrick was protestant.

Possible but usually when you register a death in Scotland if a person has a middle name it shows up when you give the person's surname & date of birth to the registrar.

I have not ruled it out.

Unfortunately you cannot view this on line but I notice that there is no mention of the middle name of Gregory.

A far as I am aware all contact was lost with Isabella & her daughter Jeanie in relation to the Kilpatrick family.

My late Grandfather had Jeanie's father's War Medals & had hoped that one day she would have been in contact with the Kilpatricks in order to give them to her but it never happened.

I think that the split in the marriage may have been acrimonious hence the reason for no contact with John Kilpatrick's siblings.

Two of my cousins have tried to find out what became of Isabella & her daughter Jeanie over many years but they have drawn a complete blank.

John Kilpatrick's parents were John Kilpatrick & Annie Kilpatrick(nee Gibb)

John Kilpatrick married Isabella Duff Scott on 28/12/1906

Isabella' parents were listed on the marriage certificate as Joseph Scott & Jeanie Scott(nee Gregory)

They were living in Harmony Row in the Govan Area of Glasgow.

Jeanie Gregory Kilpatrick was born on 28/10/1907 again in Harmony row in the Govan Area of Glasgow

Jeanie was obviously named after her Grandmother.

Yes that has crossed my mind.

This has been a challenge.

I have been trying to find out what became of the siblings of my late Grandfather.

I have had a fair bit of success in my research but what became of the widow & the child of John Kilpatrick has been a mystery.

Doug.

Thanks for your reply

I did notice that Albina was actually Kirkpatrick

On a point the name Kilpatrick & Kirkpatrick are actually both branches of the Scottish Clan Colquhoun (pronounced Cohoon)

An easy mistake

May I thank everyone for their input.

I knew about my late Grandfather being named as his next of kin and have John's enlistment papers but not the information being digitized at the moment

The Jeanie G Kilpatrick married in 1944 unfortunately was not Jeanie Gregory Kilpatrick but Jeanie Gibson Kilpatrick.

This has been a challenge as both of these women just seem to have just vanished.

I am beginning to wonder if Jeanie was possibly adopted.

Sometimes you just need a bit of luck and input from another source.

In the 1891 Scottish Census Isabella(Bella) would have been listed under her maiden name of Scott as she did not marry John Kilpatick until 1906.

John Kilpatrick emigrated to Canada in 1910 & enlisted in The Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1914.

The Bella Kilpatrick who sailed to Canada in 1912 gave her age as 26 on the ship's manifesto

Isabella was born in 1886.

The marriage seems to have broken up as when John Kilpatrick enlisted he stated that he was single & named my Grandfather as his next of kin not his wife.

I am confidant that this Bella is the right person.

The last entry in the Scottish Records  for Isabella & and her daughter Jeanie is in the 1911 Scottish Census where they are both staying in Gourock an area where Isabella was born.
