Scottiedog - Quarton Houlden was my Great Great Grandfather. If you did manage to get any photos, I'd be really very interested!

Hi Kath

Wow, this is one of out of the dim and distant! Quarton was my wife's great great grandfather too.

I'm afraid I never did manage to find a picture nor locate his grave. I have a photo of his mother and father's grave stone though and quite a few other family details back to the mid-1700s.

Cheers

Hi Dolly

Sorry, no photos of Oliver St. but I remember it well. Also Oliver St. East with the Gas Showrooms on the corner of Agyll St.

Anyway, I notice you have Booths & Scotts on your tree. So do I. Do you have a Willie Booth or a Charles Henry Booth in Birkenhead/Wirral?

Best regards
Les

I've had a similar problem. Changed to another compatible brand and all is well.

Technical Help / Re: Remote assistance

Has anyone used either as a recipient or as a helper the remote assistance facility where you hand your computer over to someone at a remote location to sort out a problem. If so, what was the experience please?

Yes, I use Teamviewer occassionally to assist others. It can seem odd to the person at the other end but it does the job. The "experience" seems very dependent on network speeds.

What's your particular concern?

Windows XP SP3 (greyed out) is not checked - so I presume I am running the program in Windows 7 mode and it all seems to work?

Yes, mine seemed to be working too, but then I realised some options I only use occassionally would fail - in particular exporting reports to PDF.

I should have said that I'm running 32 bit W7.

Hi

I had similar problems with FTM 2005 on WIndows 7. I solved my issues by setting it to run in XP compatibility mode.

Elizabeth Cochrane age 42 wife of William  127 Livingstone Street   Burial 18/5/1929  Private Grave  Section 7 grave number 489
Livingstone St. - The site of the old Public Baths. Gone now of course.

Here's the section plan.

You may be lucky and be able to locate an unmarked grave, but when I tried there were so many unmarked ones and illegible stones that I needed the more detailed map of plots within the section.

HTH & best of luck

Hi

From my experience, yes, you can identify the plot number at the library, but to locate it you'll need a plot map of the section from the office at Landican.

Hi - I'm no expert, so this may not be a valid comment, but here goes anyway. I hope it's helpful.

I don't recognise that cap badge as a Cheshire Regiment badge. Have you researched it? I've attached a photo of my grandfather's cap badge. Here's a link to the badge on Wikipedia and another to what I take to be a WW1 badge.

My grandfather was in the 1/4th Cheshires during WW1. I visited and contacted the regimental museum in Chester. They tried but weren't very helpful. My grandfather also sailed to the Med with his battalion in mid 1915 to take part in the Dardinelles campaign. Perhaps that's where your grandfather was heading. Mine ended up in hospital in Alexandria to recover from disentry, but that was after months at Gallipoli.
