Hi Bob,
I quite like your thoughts that Elizabeth Moore may have been this particular William’s first wife.   It all seems to fit, especially considering that Eliza and William Webb moved to London very close to William (her possible father).
I have no more info on the Moore family as yet.   I only started down this path last week when I found the possible baptism of Eliza Trays.
I will PM you shortly.

Hi David,
Thanks for that, it makes things a bit clearer.   I think that every time I conduct a records search I get a different result, even when I think that I have used the same search parameters!

Hi Bob,
I am glad that info was of some use and look forward to seeing how Eliza fits in to the whole, huge, Trease tree.   If I can help let me know.
Mark

Hi Bob,
I am writing about your wonderful research into the Trease family history, especially managing the website.   I have been researching on and off for about 25 years and I think that I came across the Trease website about 10 years ago.
My great grandmother was Daisy Trayes Halliday (1874-1955), the daughter of Thomas Halliday and Alice Webb.   Alice Webb was born in Bath Somerset in 1833 and died in Victoria, Australia in 1887.   Her parents were William Webb (1808-1872) and Eliza Trayes (abt 1809-1854), married Walcot Somerset on 10 Apr 1831.   Both died in Victoria.   I see that you have some details on Eliza on your website and that you are not sure where Eliza fits into the main Trease family.   I have a copy of Eliza’s death certificate which states her parents as John Trayes and Elizabeth Trayes.   The informant on the death certificate was not a family member (that I am aware of), most likely a local ‘agent’ in the area who recorded the details.   Death certificates are notorious for errors!   So I am keeping an open mind about the accuracy of the information.
Over the last couple of days I found on the FamilySearch website an entry for an Eliza Trays – baptised on 26 Jul 1808, at Walcot St Swithin, Somerset, England, parents William Trays and Elizabeth.   A search of the register index on Ancestry found no details, but a looking through the digitised pages on Ancestry I found the actual entry.   Ancestry has interpreted the record as “Eliza Frays”.   It could go either way!
Further searching unearthed the baptism of a Jane Trayes – 6 Jan 1805 Bath St James Somerset, appears to be a Bishop’s transcript, parents William Trayes and Elizabeth.   Indexed and image on Ancestry.   Also a marriage between William Treays and Elizabeth Moore on 11 Apr 1802 in Bath Somerset.   I could only find the index entry on FamilySearch, not on Ancestry.   The church was listed as Bath St James, but also as “SS Peter & Paul”, so a little confusing.   I looked for the digitized images on Ancestry but the marriage registers don’t appear to be in the Ancestry records.
I did a brief search in your website but couldn’t link to Jane or William and Elizabeth Moore.   I will keep searching, but I thought that you may find the above of interest to help prove or disprove the link between your Trease family and Eliza Trayes.
King regards,

Cavan / Re: Mitchells in Bailiebororough, Cavan
« on: Thursday 05 August 21 02:06 BST (UK)  »
Thanks very much for all the replies and help.  I don’t think that John Mitchell was a convict –transportation to Victoria ceased about 1850.   According to his wife’s death certificate they married in Hawthorn Victoria about 1862 (although no actual record of the marriage has been found) so it is probably unlikely that the marriage of John Mitchell to Mary Graham in 1862 in Tomregan, Cavan is relevant to my family line.
I did take a subscription to RootsIreland but didn’t find any related baptisms in Cavan.   How accurate is the RootsIreland index of church records?  From “The List of Church of Ireland Parish Records” I note that the actual church records for Bailieborough are held in the RCB Library, Dublin, with a comment “Some coverage at RootsIreland.ie.”    Would it be worthwhile hiring someone to search these records?

Cavan / Mitchells in Bailiebororough, Cavan

My very mysterious great-great-grandfather was John Mitchell born about 1844 in Northern Ireland, according to the family stories.   He most likely arrived in Victoria, Australia about 1860 but so far I have been unable to determine just John Mitchell he is.   His marriage and the births of his 10 -12 children were never officially registered, but baptism records were found for 9 of the children.   And, of course, the registration of his death has not been found.   However he is annotated as deceased on his wife’s death certificate and on a few of his children’s marriage certificates.

Recently I have found three DNA matches each with a Mitchell marriage dating back to the 1850s – 80s in Bailieboro Cavan.   All have a John Mitchell as the father, but the forename of these three Mitchells is the same as three of my John Mitchell’s children born in Victoria.   From the Irish Genealogy site, civil records, they are:

Rebecca Mitchell married John McKelvey 3 Mar 1854, Bailieboro;

William Mitchell married Ann Fox, 7 Aug 1862, Bailieboro; and

Francis Mitchell married Isabella McCleery, 7 Dec 1881, Bailieboro.

There are a few more Bailieboro marriages with a father listed as John Mitchell but I am yet to find a DNA match to them and the forenames don’t match any of the remaining children born in Victoria.
I recently took a subscription to RootsIreland in the hope that the available church records for Bailieboro Cavan may unearth some more details but I couldn’t find any baptism entries in Bailiboro, or in Cavan or the surrounding counties that match.   Are there any other records that might point me in the right direction?   Maybe someone reading this has a connection to the Mitchells!

Pembrokeshire / Re: Ribbeson in Pembrokeshire

To All,
Wow, thanks for all the replies and the pointers.   So there is a couple of place names that may fit for "Ribbeson".   Now to explore what church records are available.
Mary Warlow (nee Lloyd) did die in Oct-Dec 1851 and Stephen then married the widow Rachel Gould (nee Edwards) in Feb 1852.   Later in 1852 the migrated to South Australia with their children from both previous marriages.   In Oct 1853 they were living in Melbourne, Victoria when my G-Grandmother was born.
Cheers,
Mark

Pembrokeshire / Ribbeson in Pembrokeshire
« on: Sunday 24 January 21 05:29 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings,
My G-G-Grandfather Stephen Warlow was recorded in the 1851 Census as living in Bedwelty, Monmouthshire.   I have attached a snip of the record.   His place of birth is written as Pembroke, Ribbeson as best as I can read it.   I have been unable to locate any place named Ribbeson and the best that I can come up with is that it might be Robeston.
Has anyone heard of Ribbeson in Pembrokeshire and do you think that I might be on the right track with Robeston?
Thanks in advance,
Mark,

Over the last couple of days I have had to try a few times before the Search Page actually appears.   The reduction in information given makes it quite a bit harder to determine which actual index entry may be the correct one - age was a great discriminator when searching for John Smiths!

Back to the microfische - it may be quicker and provide more information :)

Thanks very much for all the very useful replies.   We especially liked the link to the painting of HMS Collingwood.   Now we just have to find why they were there!

I haven't used Scotland's People site yet but will get on to that very soon.

Cheers,
