Hi Malnz.
No sorry. My Campbells are Auckland people. William and Isabella arrived Auckland October 9th 1842 on the 'Jane Gifford' with my infant great grandmother Elizabeth.

Hi Malnz
Knight's swamp is/was in the Moutere plains area of Motueka/Tasman between Motueka and Upper Moutere. It was part of section 63 in the area of the German Settlement at Upper Moutere but apparently allocated originally to Humphrey Gifford. It was in the area of the present Flaxmore Road off the now Moutere Highway. Found on http://lynly.gen.nz/SPMoutereGermanSettlers.pdf
I will try to find out more. No sorry, my Campbell is William c1803 Scotland - either 1866 or 1881!!??Auckland, a carpenter who arrived on the Jane Gifford 1842.
Happy hunting!

Well James even names his old dad in Devon and says he was R.N.! So I'm off to Devon and the Navy (online anyway)! Thanks Wivenhoe, the Trove article was a part of the earlier detective work which took us to Dunwich.
A great result!   :)

Hi Jamjar
Dunwich I blieve, although they haven't specifically said. The Stradbroke museum is the keeper of the records, and the asylum inmates were buried there.

Hi Gerry, Many thanks for this. I have found this before but not for the whole period of time you have here, I do have some information on 'my James' but just not what became of him. As we said above it is pretty obvious he and Mary Agnes had a rather stormy relationship so I am assuming he left her or vice versa Her death cert says widow, but.... you never know.
