The Common Room / family history scam
« on: Tuesday 01 June 10 10:37 BST (UK)  »
I take issue with the reply to my previous post. If it's nothing to do with family history.........
then how did they come by their information ? The name they used actually is a cousin of
mine who lives in Australia.
There is NO need for such a rude reply either ! We don't all check your site every day. I wasn't
aware of the other posts. I apologize for being such a pest. I just wanted to warn others, I shall
not bother in future.

The Common Room / Family history scam
« on: Tuesday 01 June 10 08:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
I recently received an e mail, supposedly from a "cousin", claiming to be in dire need.
He said that whilst visiting London, he had been mugged and ALL his valuables were taken,
ie. passport, cash and credit cards. In short, he wanted money ! I KNEW it was a scam,
but it still shook me up. The author of this e mail must have got the "cousin's name" and my
e mail address from a message board. I want you all to be aware of this despicable scam,
and do what I did. Ignore it !

I looked up an 1891 census return on Ancestry, and the address was Ballencrieff Tollhouse. Can anyone enlighten me, please ?

Cheers

YES! Yesterday AND today. Not good enough. What do we want to do when we have some leisure time ?
Why.......use the resources of Ancestry, of course !

Lanarkshire / Susan Ogilvie
« on: Monday 23 November 09 10:42 GMT (UK)  »
Susan was my maternal g-grannie. She was born on the 28th May, 1888 in Dalziel. She was the daughter of George Ogilvie and Eliza Jane Simpson.
She married Andrew Sanaghan on the 4th Jan., 1907 at the RC Church in Motherwell.
She died on the 30th April, 1920 at the County Hospital, Motherwell.
I'm hoping that someone reading this might have a connection to her. My family have never seen a photograph of Susan. Does somebody out there have one ?

Hi Chris,

Sorry, I don't have anything on Thomas. I think my Grandad, John Fleming ( b. Bathgate, 23rd Oct. 1875, parents, William & Barbara Fleming ) may have been related to Andrew, perhaps cousins ? He was an apprentice in the grocer's shop.
There were so many FLEMINGS in Bathgate, it's hard to know.
