« on: Wednesday 19 July 17 22:39 BST (UK)  »
Have been talking to my aunt trying to find their marriage certificate but no luck so far. But have discovered a rumour that my grandfather was left on a hospital steps as a baby and a visitor named him. So no names for parents on his birth certificate here's the end of his search lol
Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to this
Of my aunts and uncles only my uncle Raymond Phillips is still alive, Shirley, Gordon, Lionel, Brian and my father Leslie are deceased.
They did live at chain cottages in Hurst later sawpit road Hurst

Berkshire Lookup Requests / Dorothy May Phillips and George William Phillips

My grandparents.were Dorothy May Phillips (nee Herring) and George William Phillips they both died in 1992 I believe that they were both aged 88. They lived in Hurst near twyford Berkshire I believe that he applied for a birth certificate and found that his names were reversed that he was called William George Phillips.i don't know where either were born but believe he may have been born in, Reading Berkshire.
My relatives have said that someone tried to trace our family tree but couldn't see past my grandfather's birth certificate which sounds strange.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks Alistair

Many thanks KGarrad, giggsycat, Heywood, avm228, Annette7, candrjm, your efforts have enlightened me about the history of a big part of my mother's ancestors how they came to Reading though probably because my grandfather met my grandmother in Henley so they were originally from Gloucester.

Cheers and again many thanks.

This is getting very interesting I knew the details of his accident having been brought up going to my nans house in Reading and know the stretch of pavement in Southampton Street where it happened the path narrows from roughly 12-15 feet to 4 feet.

Thank you very much for your interest in my family

Many thanks for the reply

This is surely my grandparents marriage as her full name was violet may went and a bell has rung as I now remember my (great) aunt Flo's surname was Chapman

It has also confirmed that I wasn't sure where my mother was born I was told Oxford although someone did say it could have been Henley

Thanks again KGarrad anything else you may find would be most interesting

Berkshire Lookup Requests / Violet Went

Am trying to trace my family tree on my mother's side, she grew up living in West hill in Reading.

Her mother was Violet Went she died aged about 63 sometime in  a the late sixties early seventies, I don't know my grandfather's name my mother was born in 1931 in Oxford, she died last year.

My grandfather was knocked down and killed by a motorcar on Southampton Street in Reading when my mother was either 3 or 4 years old she had a brother 2 year's younger William Went who died roughly 15 years ago.

My grandmother had a sister named Flo who married and had 3 children a girl Brenda and two boys the oldest Alan can't remember the youngest. Unfortunately I cannot remember her married name although I know her husband died during the late seventies.

Any help would be greatly appreciated many thanks
