Inverness / Frasers - John & Simon - Boleskine area
« on: Saturday 04 February 23 19:19 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Came to a bit of a halt in my tree, John Fraser 1791 to 1867 married to Amelia Mackintosh

His parents are listed on the Death cert as Simon Fraser - Farmer & Bella MacDonald -

Birth Cert - born to Simon Fraser & Isobel MacDonald in Migovie??

Cannot find a marriage match or further children of this couple which I find a bit strange.

Would any of you kind people have any insights to help with my search or information sources I've not thought to look at?

Any ideas greatly appreciated

J

Thanks for the bits of info guys.
I've downloaded the Will of James Smith Senior.
Who is indeed a Linen Manufacturer but is married to an Elizabeth Stewart not Wilson.
Have a 16th July 1815 marriage on that front.
The will doesn't mention any bequests to sons.  Multiple nephews & nieces & business contacts only.
Bit stumped on this one

Angus (Forfarshire) / Family of James Smith - Montrose. Died July 13 1865

Hi,

Looking for some assistance on finding the family of James Smith - Retired Naval Surgeon. You good people helped me out with his service record.
He dies aged 65 in Montrose. Though census 1851 & 1861 have birth dates of  1799 & 1797 in Montrose?
Parents are James Smith - Linen Manufacturer & Elizabeth Wilson.
I assume being a Linen Manufacturer wld be a reputable career but can't find anymore info?

If that is the case would Irish birth records exist for a child born during to British military?
Not had much joy finding Pension Records for John ( Robert) Chapman either

Hi,
I checked on original records for the birthplace.

The informant was his son David but an error is possible like you say.

Any help is appreciated though

Kincardineshire / Robert Chapman - Journeyman Miller - Irish or Scottish

I've been researching Robert Chapman- a 4X Great grandfather and found an intriguing issue.

Census 1841 - aged about 45
Born Kincardineshire
Residing in Cowieswells,Dunnotar parish with wife Mary Stewart ( wed 12 Nov 1831 )
Children : David , Stewart ,Jane & John

Census 1851 has Robert aged 52 living in Fordoun working as a Corn Miller living with Mary Stewart & Stewart, Joan & John.
However he is listed as born in Kilkenny, Ireland??

This is corroborated again in 1861.
Robert aged 63 living in Laurencekirk as a Miller with Mary Chapman & Jane aged 26 now.
Born in Dublin, Ireland now

1871 - we have Robert aged 73 sadly widowed living in Marykirk as a Journeyman Miller still listed as Born in Ireland.

Now his Death Cert in 20 March 1881 has his parents as Robert Chapman ( Chelsea Pensioner ) & Jean Edwards

Only Robert Chapman  I can find is born 12 Dec 1798 in Kincardine to John Chapman & Jean Edward.

Could anyone shed some possible answers to this question of birth place & family?

Jeannie did marry in 1937 - James Craig in Portsoy who was Mary Anns step father.

I have not received Mary Ann's marriage cert in the post yet.

Where wld I find Maintenance payments & would they be applicable to such a young mother?

The one I have I'm fairly sure is correct.
21 July 1873 in Clunas but nowhere closer on finding her father Alexander Mcintosh listed as a Chelsea Pensioner
