Hello MarsKy, you are quite correct.  It is great to see how the family tree works in.  My father used to talk about being a cousin of the great Jimmy Delaney but I could never find the link in the tree.  I managed to check the death certificate of Mary Delaney (my Elizas sister) and it did confirm her mothers maiden name of Franey and not Rennie.  Many thanks for your information, much appreciated.

Thanks for the information Jim1.  Very interesting, fills a lot of gaps.  There was talk of him being at the Curragh.

Many thanks again.

Hello you were great in finding my husbands great uncle Charles Stevenson Boer war and WW1 records, it was the right person.  The Chelsea pension card gave his address.

I am on again for more help regarding Charles younger brother  James Campbell Stevenson who is my husbands grandfather.   I have tried looking myself on ancestry with no luck.
We know he was in the Royal Engineers. 3 Lowland Field Company  and he was a sapper.  He was born in 1885 in Glasgow.  We think he was stationed in Sussex.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you

Wow, thank you all so much for that.   It does seems like our Charles Stevenson.  The information about Ladysmith was from my husbands father, but maybe he just went through there, but didn't fight.  He was involved with the fixing of the cart wheels. We didn't know about him being in the 1st world war. Is it possible to see the medal records somewhere and how do I find out about the Chelsea pension  records.
I'm still amazed at the information you have given me.
Thank you

Hi I have received great help from this forum when doing my family tree.  I am now doing my husbands tree and I am hoping for some help tracing his Great uncles Boer war service.  We do know that Charles Stevenson was born in 1876 in Glasgow and he never married.  On the 1901 Census he is at home in Glasgow, also states he is a soldier can't make this bit out, but looks like RFA and that he was on furlough.  We also know for sure that he was at Ladysmith.  I know it's not a lot to go on, but any help or pointers would be very much appreciated.
Thank you

Hi all, many thanks for replying to my post the information is very helpful.
Yes I had found them on the 1841 and 1851 census, but couldn't make out the writing for where Janet Strang was born, now I know it was Mearns.   I have a copy of John Stevensons death certificate he died june 1865 at 16 Crawford St., Glasgow, but there is no informaton on his mother or father that column has been left blank.  It's mostly his parents that I am trying to trace as I know that Janet Strangs parents were James Strang and Janet Miller.  I will follow up on the siblings.
Thank you all so much.

Please can anyone help me trace this family.  John Stevenson married Janet Strang about 1816.  John Stevenson was born 1796 in Renfrewshire.  Janet was born 1796 don't know where she was born.  (Janets parents were James Strang and Janet Miller).  John and Janet lived in Finneston, Glasgow and had about 10 children.  Charles 1818, Janet 1822, Frances 1824, John 1828, Francis 1831, Alexander 1832, Isabella 1835, Andrew 1837, Jean 1838, James 1839.  Have been searching for a marriage certificate or birth certificate for John or Janet, also tried looking for Charles the eldest childs  birth certificate with no luck.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you
