Thank you for looking it may seem a rare name but the early Findlaters had large families. I have found the Morayshire Findlaters descended from Alexander who married Christian Brodie's son John who married Lilias Brodie.  Their son Robert was born in Morayshire and 'apparently' went to Ireland.  Next found in Aughnacloy, died and had two sons, William & Thomas.  Interested in any marriages and family in born there.
Thanks for looking.

Looking for details of Robert Findlater (born in 1692) son of John Findlater & Lilias Brodie in Rafford,
Morayshire area.  His brother James was born 1693 in Rafford, Morayshire as per Scotland's people.

He was next found in Aughnacloy, Monaghan area of Ireland with two sons, Thomas & William.  He died in 1778 in Tyrone as per will lodged.

"Ireland, Diocesan and Prerogative Wills & Administrations Indexes, 1595-1858", , FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:WGH1-22N2 : Sun Mar 10 08:11:21 UTC 2024), Entry for Thomas Findlelater, 1759.

Any information including births, marriages and deaths much appreciated.

Hi Gail,

I'm pleased you've found a new stomping ground.  :) If you should come across any 'INGLIS' headstones I would be most interested.

Thanks also to Colin for taking the time out to take some 'happy snaps'...it's really very sad that this cemetery is so unkempt, unloved and allowed to be desecrated in this way.  I imagine that it was quite a stately and dignified place to inter the dearly departed in its day and I suppose being off the beaten track has quite a bit to do with it's now dilapidated state.   ::)

Great to see the weather's okay and you can get out and about for a stroll in Motherwell!

Sage.

Have photo of Inglis & Clark with Jessie Inglis died 18th Jan 1942.  Stone was erected by Bessie Inglis

Hi,
I am descended from Caroline Findlater who married Charles Smith. Their son William died in 1858 & the oldest girls Margaret & Mary emigrated in 1862 to Australia. Charles died in early Feb 1864 & Caroline & the other 2 girls Jane & Annie emigrated to Australia in lat Feb.  They all seems to have lived in Rockhampton for a while.
All of the Australian records for Caroline have her maiden name as Findlay.
I'd love more info on the Findlater family.
Regards
Naomi

Hello

my husband is descended from Caroline's brother Alexander Findlater.

Hi B J Peak,
George Nelson and Fanny Ann Dunlop are my great-grandparents. I'm descended from their daughter Annie; my paternal grandmother. I was just saying to my father [their grandson] last week that we don't know much about George & Fanny Ann's descendants. We know that Margaret  was married twice & died 7/8/1939; that David died at Passchendaele on that infamous day of 12/10/17; that Fanny Ann married Archie Gilmore, who had two children who never married; that I haven't researched the families of Samuel [born 1879], George [1885], & John [1892].
Our Coleraine families are Nelson, Dunlop, Blair & Johnston.
So, who are you descned from?
Regards,
Hugh Sutherland

Hi I am descended from Joseph Nelson; David's brother.

Marriage: 27 July 1876 Moneydig Presbyterian Church, George Nelson, farmer, Gortnamoyagh, son of David Nelson, farmer, to Fanny Anne Dunlop, Claragh, daughter of Samuel Dunlop, farmer. Witnesses: Margaret Blair, Andrew Wilson.

A George Nelson was witness to marriage of Alex Chambers & Mary Anne Nelson of Gortnamoyagh, daughter of David Nelson, 2 Mar.1876 at First Garvagh Presbyterian Church- other witness Nancy Chambers.

Unfortunately there's a large gap in 1st Garvagh baptisms during the period George Nelson was born.

I believe Mary Ann Nelson is the grandaughter of David Nelson who married Jane Agnes Dobbin and she married Alec Chambers 2 Mar 1876.

Hi Jean

A David Nelson, farmer, of Gortnamoyagh had a son George who married Fanny Ann Dunlop at Moneydig Presbyterian Church on 27 Jul 1876.  They left Clyde on the "Oamaru" on 23 Sep 1876 and arrived in Otago, New Zealand on 16 Dec 1876.  If he is part of the family you are researching I would like to swap my New Zealand information for your Irish information.

Hi BJ
