When was she born?
Is she the 1800  marriage in Cupar - Fife?
What were the childrens birthyears?  Were they born Fife or Roxburgh?

EDIT - William was b 1809 & Andrew was b 1814 - both Roxburgh.  The 1800 marriage entry & both births show her only as Anne

Some of the birth records for her children she went by Agnes.  Her birth year is unknown.  The only other record for her is the 1831 Jedburgh Census but it just lists her as an adult female.

Roxburghshire / Ann Agnes Watson nee Duncan - No death record??
« on: Friday 05 April 24 20:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I've been trying to track down a death record for my 5x great-grandmother Ann Agnes Watson nee Duncan.  According to the family gravemarker at Jedburgh Abbey, she died in 1839 less than a year after her husband James Watson died in 1838.  Her marriage record said she and James were both from Cupar, Fife at the time of their marriage.

Their children's names were:

1. James b. 1802 in Cupar, Fife
2. John Rutherford (I think this is a deviation from the naming tradition as John is not a common name in later generations)  b. 1804 in Kelso, Roxburghshire
3. Margaret b. 1806 in Kelso, Roxburghshire died 1827 in Jedburgh, Roxburghshire
4. William b. 1809 in Kelso, Roxburgshire
5. Andrew b. 1813 in Kelso, Roxburghshire

The family moved to Jedburgh sometime between 1813 and 1821.

The existing belief is that her parents were Andrew Duncan and Anne Sivis, but there is no concrete proof, just speculation.

Unfortunately, I don't have information on David Dick but I am also looking for my ancestor who was in the 34th Fifeshire MIlitia in 1802-1804.  I did find an old website that's been archived and from there found the old owner who still has his database.  I got the name of the commanding officer, and the dates of his service.  It also included his marriage record.  I suggest you give him a try.

This is the old website:  https://web.archive.org/web/20190312015042/http://www.thaneofife.org.uk/

Can I ask what information you got from the Kew Archives?  I live in Canada and want to know if it's worth paying someone to access the records.

On the face of it, two people with the same surname living at the same address look as though they should be related, and since Betsy's children have the surname Watson, it seems possible that her late husband was Andrew's brother.

As it's Scotland, you can't see census images unless you pay for them at Scotland's People, but transcripts are available on other sites if you have a subscription. Using these, I've come up with some things you could check:

1851 census - I see Betsy is wife of a John Watson born in Jedburgh, who is quite a bit older than her, and a similar age to Andrew. Can you confirm that they are brothers?

In the 1861 census Betsy had a son William, aged 5. You're in luck with him, because according to the birth index at SP, he was born in 1855, the first year of civil registration. In that year, birth certificates include a great deal of information about the parents, so you might find that this would answer more or less anything you want to know about Betsy (and John). (The index doesn't give Betsy's maiden name; I'm not sure why - maybe the index didn't include this while the system was bedding in?)

I haven't looked for John Watson's death, but if it was in 1855 or later the certificate should give the names of his parents - again, to help confirm if he was related to Andrew.

Hope this helps.

Andrew and John aren't brothers, but I wonder if they are 1st cousins??  Andrew's father James Watson (Sargent Major) died in Jedburgh 1838 but his birth is recorded only as Scottish Borders.  I've not been able to confirm his parents, but his first and only daughter was named Margaret.

Could you give us the full census reference, please? Or at least the location.

1861 Scottish Census

Andrew Watson 11 Abbey Close, Jedburgh

Betsy Watson (Widow) 11 Abbey Close, Jedburgh (her and her children are listed right under Andrew and his family)

If it is Betsy... then it's a missing link in my tree.  I know of a Betsy Watson Storie married to a John Watson, but as far as I know not related.  But it appears she is living with my 4x great-grandfather and his family after the death of her husband.

Am I right in assuming that would be they were related?

I was looking at the 1861 Cesus for my 4 x great-grandfather Andrew Watson when I saw another Watson family listed right below him.  The first name of the Head of household I think says Delay??  Does seem right to anyone else?

Hand loom weaver journeyman, or possibly hand loom weaver jute.

Thank you!  His brother's occupation is also alluding me.  Do you know what a White S. would be?
