The information I have is from old papers from a relative written before modern searches began. I am hoping someone with a link to the Haytons may be able to help.

Apologies to all. In my rush I put the wrong surname in. Hayton is the other side of this family. I meant to put in the name Coupland. My original message should have said   -  3 generations of the Coupland family ...... Sorry.

3 Generations of the Hayton family lived in Dumfrieshire before relocating to Lindale in the Southern Lake District. Does anyone have any information relating to a William Copelandwho was born in Colliston, Dumfries in 1665 and who died on 9th Feb 1715? He married a Margaret McGowan who was born  in 1675 and who died in Dumfies on 17 September in 1715. They had 6 children including a James Copeland born 1709.

Hello again Monica,
Thanks for those two links. You have confirmed that my McHardy family is correct up to Alexander McHardy born 1837 and his father Alexander McHardy born 1806.
I am now moving on to check that the  next generation is with Philip McHardy born 1776 and his wife Janet Masson born 1776.
I have a link to the Glenlivet Project on display in Tomintoul village centre in 2015. My son visited the centre for me and found very interesting photographs and documents.

Hi Again.

I now have a record for Alexander McHardy born 26 Jan 1837 in Chapeltown. Parents given as Alexander McHardy of Braeval and Elizabeth Watt. Braeval was the address of the small farm Alexander and Elizabeth McHardy lived in for more than 40 years.

Thanks for help so far.
