Hello!

Wow - Thank you so much for all of this really useful information! This has been so helpful in really trying to understand him and his life. It’s really quite sensitive, but we are supporting a relative in law with tracing his birth family - so this information has been very gratefully received. It has been a complete needle in haystack type work, but after sometime I hope we have at least one significant lead.

Feel like we are really getting a sense of him, especially the information about his love for music. The link with Dublin in 1942 is very significant, so thank you for this information! Apologies, I’m quite new to the forum and not sure how to comment to thank you individually. My next step is now trying to gather more information about a Mrs Costello, she was apparently in the Marian Choir in Tuam, she was apparently his housekeeper.

I don’t quite know how to access newspapers in Ireland, I have just extended my account on find my post, but I can’t seem to find relevant Irish newspapers - What platform is best for this?

Apologies for the lack of reply on the Gallaghers - Yes, his mother was a Gallagher married Scahill. We managed to narrow down the line we were interested in and here we are!

Once again - Huge Thanks,

Sarah

Galway / Fr Charles Scahill - Tuam
« on: Wednesday 23 March 22 22:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

Hoping for a little help! We are researching Fr Charles Scahill, who was born 24.01.1912 in Boston but came over the Ireland when he was very young, following the death of his father. He seems to have been living between Tuam, Glennamaddy and Co Mayo during his time in the priesthood. I’m looking to find out when he was ordained, does any one know how I might find this information? I can see he was ordained when he was travelling to NY in 1939, but don’t have further information.

I’m looking to see if I can also find out any information as to where he might have been in the 1940’s; specifically 1942-1943. As he was a priest, I was expecting I might be able to find an obituary - so again, any thoughts ideas would be hugely welcomed!

Any help would be greatly appreciated - Have been trying for some time to get answers and hit a dead end…  :)

Best Wishes,

Sarah

Hi all,

I'm trying to build an aspect of my tree and came across a grave stone for Patrick and Kate Gallagher and what seems to be their children in this grave. Sadly, there are no dates of birth or death on the grave - as I'm specifically looking for death dates of the children of Patrick and Kate Gallagher. Does  anyone  know how and where I might find these? There are a huge amount of Gallaghers in this part of Mayo and it can get a bit complex making sure it’s the right ones, but as they are together in a grave - I was thinking there may be a way through burial certs etc I could find it.

Also if anyone has any information at all on them - would be hugely grateful.

Best Wishes,

Sarah

Thank you this is really helpful. I’ve tried to find the Coman Nursing Home - is so strange that I can’t find it  anywhere. I wonder if this place has been relatively unknown in view of mother and baby home ( it also did have ill people/deaths there - so I have found). Does anyone know any more about these type of nursing homes or how I can find anything out about a Nurse Rose E Darling?

Really appreciate any help :)

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone can help. I’m trying to track down any biological links to my father in laws family. He was born at 11 Wellpark Avenue in Drumcondra, Dublin in 1940's and we are now aware that this was a ‘private’ nursing home. Nurse Rose Darling was the nurse who ran this nursing home. He was adopted a few weeks after birth. The birth certificate states M M as his mother, but this is now looking to be possibly factually incorrect due to DNA matches and other information we are gathering.

Does anyone have any information on if these ‘private’ nursing homes kept records? How can we find any more information about this Nurse - and any records or links to adoption arrangements? Or anyone know any information at all about this address - or also have relatives born here?

Would really appreciate any help!

Sarah
