more than likely Tabithas Baptism - Penketh Abode

Baptism: 10 Apr 1825 Sankey Chapel, Great Sankey, Lancashire, England
Tabitha Wilson - Daughter of Joseph Wilson & Mary
    Abode: Penketh
    Occupation: Labourer
Halewood to Penketh is 8 mile by road - probably 6/7 across farm paths - as you are in Widnes I am sure you know this

I've been looking more closely into Tabitha and Richard today, however this record looks to be incorrect - But very very strange.

I have found the transcripts for Tabithas' baptism and there are TWO Tabitha Wilson's baptised on the same day, in what looks to be the same parish but are on different records - Yet are under DIFFERENT parents?

They're literally next to each other - However James and Hannah Wilson do look to be correct as I have found Richard and Tabithas marriage record in Hale parish 1845 which shows James Wilson as trhe parent.

Also, a lot of records under what was our local church of St Mary's in Hale were destroyed due to arson in the 1970's I believe it was, looking at the baptisms for some of the children does look as if there is some scorching around the edges, so lucky they survived!

Hi there! Some good research being pulled from this, I did have the names and baptisms for Richard and Tabitha's children although I didn't record any dates of birth - So that's good to capture that.

I did have a document saved for the baptism of a William Kirby 1864 to Richard and Tabitha in Hale Church, however for some reason I didn't add this entry to my family tree. It looks like they had William in 1864, but then a few short years later they had William James (1865) from Hannah.

I can find no further record of William Kirby (1864) so I don't know if he died young? On GRO Death registry there is a William Kirby, but this is 1863 so it can't be him? He just adds to the questions of it!

I also didn't have any wife for Richard Kirby, I had his dad down as Thomas Kirby so finding out it could be another Hannah is again useful to work with.

But yes, the utter annoyance of living under Lancashire and Cheshire is annoying! I have to check both BMD's dependent on the era I am looking for, and even more buggered if Runcorn is in the mix as that has always been under Cheshire

Lancashire / Hannah Kirby [Lancashire/Widnes/Halewood]

Hi - Hannah Kirby has being a massive stumbling block for my family research, so much as I have found out that she is my Great-Great-Grandmother when it has long been assumed that she was an aunt, my maternal family line of "Kirby" and from what I have found out, we are not "TRUE" Kirby's - Or should I say, it doesn't follow the paternal line.

My Great-Great-Great-Grandfather is Richard Kirby of Halewood, b1812 to approx 1887. He was married to Tabitha Wilson (b1826-1902). They gave birth to Hannah Kirby in 1846.

From the census' of the time - 1851 Hannah lived with her parents, but by 1861 (Approx 15 years old) she had moved out and was a servant in Halewood. By 1871 (25 years old) she had moved in with her sister (Elizabeth) and her husband in Much Woolton.

Between 1871 and 1881 Hannah married Thomas Hulme (By the census' I would probably think it was early 1870's) and they started their own family.

Going backwards however - 1865 the birth of my Great-Great grandfather occurred. William James Kirby (b1865-1950). William James was not on the census in 1871 with Hannah and Elizabeth - Instead he was with Richard and Tabitha as a grandson. He will have been 5 years old.

He lived with his grandparent/s at least up until the 1891 census. Hannah had divorced Thomas Hulme apparently by then and had moved out of Lancashire to go live in Leeds/Yorkshire area.

What I am quite desperate to know is, Hannah was around 20 years old and unmarried birthing William James - His father is nowhere listed. I found a birth certificate for William James which confirmed Hannah as his mother - But father was not referenced.

This would mean that William James took his mums surname at birth/baptism, so for 150+ years my family line has not been a paternal line and has obviously caused a missing link. I did take an AncestryDNA test a few months ago, and while it did confirm I was related through Hannah to some of Thomas Hulmes ancestry, the paternal line is something I would like to try and find out... But, given it was 150 years ago, in my relative new experience with all of this it may be something no one will ever truly find out

Flintshire / Edward Hughes / Ellen Jones Flintshire

Hi - I've been doing pretty well with my family history, mainly for England - But I have hit a huge brick wall for my paternal side! I got it completely wrong at one point so I had to re-do it, now it's so hard finding any links from any of the resources I have checked.

My great-grandfather was William Hughes (Just as I was writing this out, I have found there may be a discrepancy with his date of birth - Not year - b. 1878), he eventually moved to Widnes, Lancashire c. 1891 with both his parents, Edward Hughes and Ellen (Jones). William died 1953 in Widnes. I have not found any birth records at this moment for William.

On the Widnes 1939 census, William has a date of birth of 30th December 1878, I found no other dated-record for this - But as I didn't have a baptism record I just checked this for him - I found a record with matching parents for 11th July 1878 which matches up with their street address on an 18xx census.

Edward and Ellen are proving to be quite troublesome. I found a record for Edward Hughes of death in 1900, Prescot, however between the census' his age did vary. Ellen died in 1906 in Widnes - However I can find no burial record for her either nor cremation record - I can only assume she (Along with Edward?) came back home to Wales?

I have checked news articles on Find My Past and I have no hits for their names, under Flint nor Widnes.

Edward Hughes -
1867 - Marriage to Ellen Jones, Flint Parish Church (Father noted to be Richard Hughes) Lived at Commercial Road
1878 - 13 Evans Street, Flint (Born Flint)
1881 - 3 Barn Street, Widnes (Born Flint)
1891 - 74 Dock Street, Widnes (Born Flint) - There is a separate piece of text AFTER Flint, but I can't make this out

-
1867 - Marriage to Edward (Father noted to be John Jones)
1878 - 13 Evans Street, Flint (Born Mostyn)
1881 - 3 Barn Street, Widnes (Born Mostyn)
1891 - 74 Dock Street, Widnes (Born Mostyn)
1901 - 81 Pear Street, Widnes (Born Mostyn) - Widow
