Corrected entries may also be used when the cause of death is not known when the death is originally registered.

Thanks
Ive no idea about dates but I’ve emailed my cousin in America.
He came across the photo among his mother’s possessions. I don’t think it was labelled at all. I think he’s hoping that if he could get an idea about the uniform it might help work out who the photo is of.

Armed Forces / Help with uniform not necessarily British

Just had this photo sent to me by an American relative. We’ve no idea what this uniform is. Any one got any idea?

Is there anywhere in Dundee you can go to look at physical copies of the Courier? The digital version seems to have lots of gaps.

Did papers in WW2 mention anything about local residents going off to the war?

Would any of the sites which have forces records through up any hints?

Thanks couldn’t make it out all.

Bit did wonder if it was Latin.

we read that Ann Orchison stated she was with child to Alexander Mitchell residing at Dameye in Kirriemuir.

thanks

Does anyone know what the circled words say?

TIA

Thanks everyone

I’ll be busy checking all this out.

The information from the Kirk session was interesting. I wonder what ‘suitable admonishment’ consisted of!

Out of curiosity I searched SP for all mentions of Or*c*n* and found over 60 spelling variants.

There are two recorded baptisms of children to Alex* Or*c*n* and Agnes Ne*l*
James, 1801, Kirriemuir
John, 1810, Kirriemuir

There are two deaths of Or*c*n* with mother's maiden name Ne*l*
Helen, 91, 1897, Glamis, other surname Crabb
Ann, 87, 1887, Forfar, other surname Grant

The variations for name are amazing. Makes me realise there’s no advantage to having something unusual!  :)

To help out...

You were right in your expectations regarding the death of David Bell Williamson  :-\  Cause of death from his registration:

Thanks for that. That’s kind of you.

Certainly sounds like a motor bike accident.
I’ve just checked wearing helmets wasn’t compulsory until 1973 so chances they wouldn’t have worn them.

This is what it said on James Bell’s certificate.
