Hello all,
Looking for more information about the early life of my grandmother, who spent some years of her childhood in a Roman Catholic orphanage. She is listed as an inmate of the orphanage at St Mary's Priory in Torquay on the 1921 census (age 8, "father dead"), but I have no other information about when she went in/came out, other than a small local news story with a detail about her still being there in 1927.
Has anyone succeeded in accessing records for this orphanage? I contacted the Diocesan Archives in Plymouth and was kindly directed to inquire with the Stone Dominican Sisters in Stafford (where the records were moved when the priory in Torquay shut down). I emailed them, but received no response.
Many thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions on this.
