Dear All

I am looking for information regarding my Grandad, Robert McArthur, born 11 Sep 1906 Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, moved to Astley in Greater Manchester around 1934, married Agnes Millar Purdie April 1935. He died 9 Jun 1957 in Astley. Alas I never knew him but I am told he played football for Nottingham Forrest, maybe as a reserve or an amateur. However I have never seen any information regarding this, so maybe just an anecdote but I would like to explore the idea, any newspaper cuttings or records.
However after 1939 Census I am struggling to locate any information about him.

Annie Cotter, died 42 Belmont Rd L15, age 57. int 6/2/1939
Catherine O'Brien, died 126 Smithdown Rd L15 age 32. int 24/9/1945
John Joseph O'Brien, died 126 Smithdown Rd L15 age 1 week. int 24/9/1945, buried with Catherine.

When it says Robert Smith is the deed holder, does that mean he owns the land the grave is in, the people in the grave seem unrelated, so I am wondering if this is a public grave, rather than a grave for Roberts family?
Also on Find a Grave, TW531 doesn't return a result, maybe I am misunderstanding how it works

Hi

If you give us a name we can check  the burials register to see which section this person was buried in. From what you have said its quite possible this was a public grave where the rights to burial were not purchased so there will be no headstone but if we can look and see what the section was then that would enable Marienne to check the graves registers to confirm that.

Thank You. The name is Francis Brennan, 13 Newsham Street, born 19 Jan 1910, died aged 19 mths I think.
