These are great resources shellyesq thank you for the links, I think you are correct about the John L. Bush connection. Having a look now to see if I can source any church records for that church.

hanes teulu Thanks for searching for that it’s a shame it doesn’t hold anything more.

Shellyesq thanks for that info that’s a shame that’s the only way they were registered.

Does anyone know what W.M. church would mean in the returns? West Michigan? Would that be a church or an organisation?

Thanks for all of your help.

United States of America / Allendale, Ottawa, Michigan Wedding Certificate 1887

Hello,

I have found the potential wedding of my x2 great grandparents in Allendale, Ottawa, Michigan in a return of marriages here: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N3NZ-45N

James Henry 27

Occupation: Farmer

Born: Ballycastle, Ireland

Mary Welch 20

Born: Co. Tyrone, Ireland

25 Feb 1887

Allendale, Ottawa, Michigan, USA
Residence of both: Allendale

J.L.Bush Pastor
W.M. Church

It is a theory at the moment but I was wondering if there would be other certificates out there of this marriage that may confirm the names of the parents of the bride and groom? Like an official marriage certificate rather than the marriage returns? If so where could I find this record?

I have definite confirmation of the brides parents from my records and they were based around Ballycastle, it may be a way to confirm if this is the correct couple and also find James' parents details to research him further.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Kris

Hey all, it's been a while. Hope you are all well!

I thought I would post an update that I have finally got a copy of the 1890 police census pages. I managed to get some help from a FamilySearch centre in New York.

I have the pages for the Henry (Henery) family living at No. 316 East 44th (same address on daughter Annies birth cert.) and Mary's sister Fanny McDonnell & husband Archie living at No. 221 East 44th. (I've attached the Henery page for ref below)

I was wondering, with the potential Henry marriage in Allendale, Michigan would there be other certificates out there that may confirm the names of the parents of the bride and groom? Like an official marriage certificate rather than the marriage returns? As I have definite confirmation of the brides parents it may be a way to confirm if this is the correct couple and find James' parents details?

Wedding link again for ref:

Thanks,
Kris

Thanks Sanda,

That looks like it is the same person, it seems like they moved down to Cumberland and then returned to Scotland in some census records I have her marked as born in Ireland so I will need to work back from the records I find, hopefully the marriage certificate fills in the gaps.

Thanks for all of your help I have ordered the record from the GRO, fingers crossed it's the one I am looking for.

Do they send a digital copy as well as the physical or is this just in certain cases?

Thanks everyone!

I can't seem to find the tree with that note when I search for Margaret Robertson on Ancestry, is there any way to share this with me?

I'm new to researching records in England is UKBMD the best place to look for records? Do you have to order from there to view them?

Also: Any idea why there would be a mixup in marriage dates?

Thanks,
Kris

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone can help me locate an 1884 wedding certificate in Workington, Cumberland. I found it in the birth certificate of my great grandmother who was born in Lugar, Ayrshire, Scotland.

I have searched Ancestry and MyHeritage and had no luck, here are the details and the screengrab from the birth cert.

James Burns
Iron Char Filler

Margaret Burns
M.S. Robertson

1st Jan 1884
Workington, England

Thanks in advance,
Kris

Thank you so much aghadowey, that fills in a lot of gaps I'm sure my DNA match will be thrilled to have these too.

I'll send over my email now.

Apologies on that typo again Kiltaglassan, I think my autocorrect keeps changing that when I paste it.
