If you go onto the familysearch web site, then to the search and IGI section, have a look at batch P002421 for British Isles, England, Northumberland with the surname of Whitfield, you'll find quite a few in Allendale! It'll keep you busy for a bit working out all the relationships!...
Also have a look at one of my favourite sites: http://communities.northumberland.gov.uk/Allendale.htm
There's a John Whitfield mentioned on the 1762 Militia List - possibly Gideon's brother?

Thank you for this resource - I am trying to find information about Jacob Whitfield (1774-1860 3xGGF) - parents It appears that he was born into a Quaker family to John Whitfield & Susanna Pierson/Pearson. However, he married an outsider, Mary Gowrie (1st wife, of 4) and was convicted of horse stealing.
Initially sentenced to death, he was sent to Australia in 1822 on the Isabella I.
And so, my line of Whitfields arrived in Australia!
I have not been able to find many BDM records from the family. It appears that his father, John Whitfield (1730-1774) was baptised in 1730 in Allendale Northumberland and some records have the Quaker 'Q' attached to them. Very little else has shown up. And I only have convict records relating to their son, Jacob.
I'm hoping to track down more of their stories.
Kind regards & thank you for the resource.
