Thanks All!

The bottom R is certainly the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) symbol, top L an hourglass (presumably representing time?) with a red rose (Lancashire?) in the middle.
I'm working on all this meaning:  use time wisely, work hard, honour God and love Manchester.
I'll check this theory with the local Oddfellows' Hall.  I think they are open to answering Qs about their society.

Hi All.

Thanks for your responses and ideas.  I actually solved this one by the same process as you, in that I tried to interpret the 4 items in the design.  A beehive and St Peter rang a bit of a bell, as I knew that Manchester has a beehive associated with it (representing industry) and St. Peter's Field was the site of the Peterloo Massacre.  Tried all the various regiments and then had a "bing" moment!  Manchester Unity and the Order of Oddfellows.  Yup, it turns out that my uncle must have been a card-carrying, tie-wearing Oddfellow.  I never knew that!  I still don't know what the other symbols represent but I may dig around and satisfy my curiosity.  Thanks again.  Rory

Armed Forces / Mystery Badge - Anyone Recognise?
« on: Tuesday 18 March 25 18:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hello.

I found a tie in my late uncle's effects.  Black, with a single crest (see image) which I'm guessing is linked to his time in the Army, as it was with other military things.
if anyone has any suggestions on the ID of the badge, please drop me a line.
Thanks.
Rory
