I have seen before about Robert Higham coming from Suffolk but all unsourced! In fact in one tree I have seen on the internet (ancestry.co.uk) , the author states that the said Robert dies in a prison hospital in France on 2 October 1799! I think until there is proof it is a dangerous thing to speculate. Many people see the tree and then they take it as the truth, as it is written in black and white!

Anyway mini-rant over!! Hope you are well and would love to hear from you again especially with information about William Higham and his life, and photos etc.

Best wishes

Julia

Thank you Kris and Deb

Very interesting but still not sure what conclusion to draw! I think Deb is for the idea of Margaret Rickard, but Kris is still sceptical. Certainly the Cornwall OPC database says Peggy Kellow married James Delbridge. I believe in Cornwall there was at one point a practice of naming children in a particular pattern so I might look into that to see if any pattern emerges. The name Candy /Cundy pops up in James and Peggy/Margaret's children's names, where one may have imagined Rickard might be.

My interest is in Stephen Rickard and Christian Nicholas who were the parents of Margaret and Elizabeth Rickard. Elizabeth Rickard married Robert Charles Higham, who was my great great great grandfather. I have seen that the Margaret Rickard talked about on this thread is thought to be their daughter but as both Margaret and Rickard are very common Cornish names I would really like to know on what others base this supposition!

Many thanks

Hello

I am sorry to resurrect such an old thread but I was researching Margaret Rickard , daughter of Stephen Rickard and Christian Nicholas , baptised in Crowan in 1804 (LDS records) and came across your discussions. Did anyone ever conclude whether or not the Peggy who came to Australia with James  Delbridge was Margaret Rickard or was she someone completely different?

I would be really pleased to know what conclusions were made!

Thank you

Thank you so much.

I was searching everywhere and just couldn't find the answer. I need to remember to write down my sources in future! I get quite excited when finding a new lead, and then forget where I found new members of my tree. I realised my error when transfering my tree to a new computer programme.  Thank you again

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / COMPLETED Glasscock of Finchingfield in the 1700's

I have been merging family tree data on my computer and have somehow lost the sources of any Glasscock family interests that I had in Finchingfield. I have the following information from somewhere!

John Glasscock married Elizabeth Willis and had the following children

Ruth 1766
Thomas 1767
Elizabeth 1771 and 1777
Susannah 1774
John 1783

I have spent hours trying to find where I might have got this information from, but I just can't remember!

If anyone could help I would be really grateful.

My interest is primarily in Susannah. I believe that she married Enoch Erswell in 1801 in Saffron Walden, and was my fourth great grandmother.

Many thanks

Julia

Somerset Lookup Requests / Re: Marriage John WITHERS and Susan c 1825 Walcot?

I have now been on the BMDregisters.co.uk site and have looked at the original record of the baptism. It confirms the IGI entry and gives additional information. It states that the place of abode is Charter House, Hinton, Somerset.

Would anyone know if this means the place Hinton Charterhouse?

It also gives Susan's parents names James and Jane Kiddall. That is as far as it goes so not sure where next!

Susan and John Withers also had a son who was baptised in Walcot, Bath in October 1837 but I cannot find him on the Bath BMD site.  I am not sure whether there is anywhere else to look!

All suggestions welcome!

Anna

How brilliant you are!

I think you may have the answer I was looking for! I think a John and a Susan was a relatively unusual combination at that time and Bradford on Avon is only a few miles down the road from Bath.

Thank you so much for your help, and CaroleW , thank you for your help too!

Best wishes to you both

Dear CaroleW

I  am so sorry to have doubted you! I have looked again and see the difference between yes and no!

How embarrassing but really good as I had always had it in my mind that John was a local boy, so that blows that idea.

I have no idea where I can go now but never mind. My Dad had in mind that I would discover that he was directly descended from a Scottish clan and that he would be able to wear the tartan!

As you say it will be nigh on impossible to go anywhere not knowing in which county he was born.

I am interested in him being a Police Inspector and that Susan lived to a great age in Victorian Bath so I must comfort myself with that.

Many thanks again for your help.

Best wishes

I have looked again at the 1841 Census and it shows that John was born in Somerset. Presumably that may help in the task of finding a Somerset marriage and indeed the christening of their 15 year old son, Henry, the baker. Henry was born in Somerset too .

Can you advise on how I could track this information down, as I can't seem to find it!

Many thanks

Julia
