Armed Forces / Re: Seek WWII Information - England
« on: Friday 10 November 06 20:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Bill.  Both men are deceased and yes there are children though the "Canadian Stanley" cousins haven't had much to do with the "English Stanley" cousins.  I may have to get my father-in-law to talk to them as it was his brother and brother-in-law.

Appreciate your help.

Armed Forces / Seek WWII Information - England
« on: Friday 10 November 06 20:08 GMT (UK)  »
Can someone tell me where I can find WWII information.  There are 2 of my husband's uncles that I would like to see if there are any service records or medals awarded to them.  Both were from Liverpool, England.  This is what I do know:

Billy (William) Wright - seaman - King George V battleship
John Stanley - army - push into the Rhine with Montgomery

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Wow!  That's great news, about the medal.  I would gladly pay for a copy of the service record.

Falkryn, thanks for the reply.  You're right that I probably won't find one single program to do everything I'd like.

I'll give the site a shot.  Thanks

Does anyone know if there is a site that compares the various software programs available for tracking genealogy.  I currently use an oder version of Family Tree Maker and would like to see what else is available prior to upgrading.

Thanks very much  :)

Hi Bill.  Thanks for the reply.  I have checked the medal roll also and you're right, none are specific to the Liverpool Scottish.  Would that just mean that he didn't receive a medal?

I'm new to researching military records.  Trying to locate service records for my husband's grandfather Pte. Richard Stanley who was in the Liverpool Scottish from 1914 - 1918.  I have a photo of him taken at Blackpool, England but no other information.  He was born 13 Nov 1892 and died 5 Mar 1969.  I would appreciate any help or links for locating these records.
