Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: John Knowles (b1862)

Thanks for that info

I don't have an Edward in my tree, but do have an Elizabeth, a cousin for John, born 1857, so this could be a possibility.

Thanks for that information.  I shall try and find out more.  I don't have access to the passenger lists, only got the basis package on Ancestry.

Thanks for your interest.

I have also searched all John Knowles in the 1911 census without any luck.

His sister Margaret gives her address as Mill Lane on the marriage cert and brother Samuel and family were still there in 1891.

I am wondering whether he emmigrated.

I am trying to find John Knowles b1862, Ashton-under-lyne.

I have him on the 1881 census living with his mother Elizabeth and brother Samuel and his family at Mill Lane, Ashton-under-Lyne.  Elizabeth died in 1888.

He was a witness at his sister's marriage in 1885, after this I can find no trace.

Any help finding him would be much appreciated.

Regards Joan

I have looked at the suggested site, but as I do not know where he settled, or his date of death I am unable to search.
I will keep on looking as there are more records coming on line all the time.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Debbie,
Thank you very much for looking.
I don't think that is him in the 2nd World War.  His parents were Frank and Sarah.
I had thought he might have come back to England, but as his mother was still alive in 1952 and also a youinger brother that he would have contacted them.
His brother (deceased) did try to find him in the days before the internet but no luck.
Thanks again

Coild some one please help me find Frank Doxey, born 1908 Gillingham, Kent.
He sailed to Quebec from Liverpool on the Laurentic arriving in Quebec 27 April 1930.  His occupation was shown as Painter.
Nothing is known of his wherabouts after this, and he did not contact family from Canada.
I know that are other Doxeys in Canada and have been in touch, but they do not have any information about him.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Joan

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: Birth James Knowles 1822
« on: Sunday 02 November 08 16:53 GMT (UK)  »

I have been doing some searching and have found a William b1826 married and living in the same area as my James.  According to the census he was born in Gargnraf(1851) and Garguff(1861) N Yorks, I am assuming this could be Gargrave.  If this is so he could well be James's brother and the link I have been looking for.

It is looking more than likely that James and Ruth are my James's parents, I have not been able to find them in the 1841 census.  I shall carry on seaching.

Thanks for your help.

Many thanks for looking up this info.

The only name that is in the family is Elizabeth.

I will see if I can follow any of the other siblings to the 1841 census, it might just give me some leads.

I do wonder if the family had moved to Lancs before James was baptised, will look into this also.
